I Need ANY Help on Global Volunteer Work/Aide

Since I was a little 3 year old boy I have always wanted to help out others who are in need. Over the last three years I have been looking for programs, but none of them seem to meet my criteria. If anybody knows of any programs that do meet my criteria, or have any insight for me it would be a great help.

My criteria consists of this:

1) About six months deployed in a different country

2) No cost on my part; I think volunteering is enough

3) Preferably a part of Africa; i'm the most familiar with their epidemics

4) I can be deployed with a friend of mine and be set up at the same camp

.....That's about it for criteria.....

If anybody knows anything or knows anyone that has had experience help me out please! I am hoping to join something near the end of 2010, and I would like to decide what program I am entering ASAP.

At the moment the peace corps is the only program near what I'm looking for, but I would prefer something a little less long term and something that gaurantees my criteria.

I can tell you right now you won't find a government run program that fits your criteria.

I know you love your Jesus. Your best bet is to do it through a Church.

Your right, the government probably can't provide exactly what I'm looking for, that's why I'm wondering if there are other nationwide programs. I've already looked around at churches in my area, none have anything near what I'm looking for.

Peace corps would be my guess but you would have to fit to their program instead of them meeting your list. It sounds like you've already looked into it but that sounds somewhat similar to what you are looking for

Yeah, the only thing it gaurantees is no cost. The friend and country I'd be deployed into aren't gauranteed in the peace corps.

Peace corps or a local church would be my best suggestions...I know alot of churches seem to have those ~ three week trips to Mexico to build homes...

Man, nobody on here has any experience doing this sort of thing, or even know anybody that did something like this?
