The 10 Worst TV Shows of 2009
The 10 Worst TV Shows of 2009
Osbournes: Reloaded. Didn't you people used to be the Osbournes? The heavy-metal royalty family began the decade with one of the most refreshingly funny celebreality shows on MTV—which only made this desperate collection of fart jokes and variety shock acts more depressing.
The Jeff Dunham Show. Put together a mediocre ventriloquist and some of the most flagrant stereotypes since the Amos and Andy era, and what do you get? Comedy Central's most-watched debut ever! I weep for America.
I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. (1) No, you're not, and (2) there's the door.
Jersey Shore. This celebration of thongs and ripped abs was an ode to the camera-readiness of the American meathead, and to the willingness of self-proclaimed "guidos" and "guidettes" to exploit their own worst ethnic stereotypes for fame.
Secret Girlfriend. What could have been an interesting experiment in second-person storytelling (starring the camera as "you") turned into, essentially, an extended beer commercial--but with less subtlety and more softcore porn.
Jon & Kate Plus Eight. Already a thinly veiled fame- and free-product-delivery device for Jon and Kate Gosselin, in 2009 the extreme-parenting reality show turned into a multimedia marital breakdown.
Hank. This sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer as a downsized mogul was a blatant attempt to grab the recession zeitgeist. And it succeeded. It gave us one more corporate CEO to hate.
The Jay Leno Show. Didn't some idiot newsmagazine call this "the future of TV"? Well, yes, and it remains so, as a sign of the cost-cutting and product-placement-ization of the declining big-network medium. But we did not necessarily mean this as a compliment.
Michael Jackson overkill. The sudden death of one of the greatest entertainers ever was, rightfully, major news. But turning Jackson non-news into fodder for Larry King Live et al. for weeks was one last sad exploitation. (And yes, I am aware I write this for a website that still has "MICHAEL JACKSON" in its entertainment banner.)
HawthoRNe. It had competition from NBC's Mercy in the bad-hospital-drama sweepstakes (with Three Rivers nipping close behind) but this clichéd sap-fest was the dubious winnER.
We did the best, now here's a list of the worst. I have seen Jon & Kate, Jay Leno, and Secret Girlfriend...and I can't disagree with any of them. Jon & Kate used to be one of my wife's shows that I could actually stay in the room during, but ever since all the drama started, it's just as bad as The Hills or anything like that.
I haven't seen any of the others, no desire whatsoever. I do like the description for I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

How is Leno up there, but Jimmy Fallon isn't? Talk about bad...he was supposed to take over for Conan...not a rotting potato...sorry, I just can't stand his show...used to like him on SNL, but he's horrid on his own...

Jersey shore is hilarious. One train wreck after the other. My two roommates went to school right around Staten Island and say guidos are everywhere and they are just as annoying and stupid as the show portrays them to be.
What were peoples thoughts on Southland?? Everyone seemed to love it but I thought it was absolutely dreadful. Its starting up again on TBS or TNT pretty soon I think.
On a side note, Ill say that Dark Blue was the best new show of 2009

I dont understand how Jersey Shore is on here.
It has like one or 2 episodes and it's hilarious. It's the most talked about show right now.
Good to see Leno on here. His show is boring and i can't wait til NBC puts something better in the future.

I'm with JesRey. I watch jersey shore, but it is one of those types of shows you watch because the cast is so over the top bad. It's pretty much just like a Real World season.
I did catch a few episodes of secret girlfriend and thought it was okay. Definitely a fresh idea as far as how they filmed it. I did find it odd that the two friends were complete losers but they wanted to make the leap that "you" the third friend was always hooking up. lol
as for the other shows, I've never seen any of them outside of 5 minutes of the jeff duhnam show which was completely bad. I have heard that Jay's show is actually believed to be cutting into local news ratings. lol If that is true it must be terrible.

The reasons you guys like Jersey Shore are exactly the reasons I would hate it...I can't stand idiot drama and trainwrecks like that, it's painful to watch and makes me lose (even more) hope in humanity.
Fallon is a good mention. I've only seen bits and pieces mostly, but he's pretty dreadful.

I actually really liked secret girlfriend. It was nice since it was a totally new approach and the episodes were hilarious. It's one of those shows where you just need to take it for what it is and it's pretty funny. I think critics aren't huge fans of shows that don't require you to think though

dude how is The Jeff Dunham show on the worst shows list? I found the first 4 episodes funny, but i stopped watching it because it was competing with the new Office episodes... but the jeff dunham show should not be on here, another poor making of the list. as for michael jackson's large amount of shows, he was probably the biggest name in music to die in a WHILE... give him some credit for being remembered..
another poor list.
