How many people here would pick a second Team Canada with players left off this team, and how well do you think it will do?
With the depth we have, there is no doubt we could put three teams together, and compete for all the medals.
I'm thinking that this team was put together for the possible chemistry it will immediately have.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

Can you imagine a second team Canada with players like Marc Savard , Stamkos , Lecavalier , St.Louis , Derek Roy , Brad Richards , Jeff Carter , Simon Gagne
We have too much depth , that's why some choices are questionnable !

I hate to get down on my team's main guy...
But does anyone else think Luongo is there because of who he plays for? I really don't believe he has played well enough to earn the invite. I think (hope) he plays #3 for two reasons....one because out of the three chosen he has had the least success this year (or even over the last few years really), and two because I don't want him tired out for the Cup run we are going to be on this spring....

I don't think playing for the Canucks hurt him, but I don't think that's what got him in there either. Luongo was always going to be on this team, unless he got hurt (same with Brodeur). He so highly regarded around the league, and considered to be one of the best (of any nation, not just Canada) that there was very little change they'd pass on him.
I'm just afraid of what happens if they have to use him in a pressure game. He hasn't won a meaningful game since becoming a pro..... and his poor play against Chicago last year just solidifies that argument.
I certainly won't be cheering against him, when he plays, but I'm honestly very worried about what happens if Brodeur gets hurt, and we get to an elimination game. Because of the home town crowd, and his golden reputation, I don't think Babcock will have the guts (or the brains?) to go with Fleury over Luongo.

As for Luongo being tired because of the Olympics....come on !
Martin Brodeur is playing over 70 games for years and at his age , he's not even tired.
Anyways , Luongo will play maybe 1 exhibiton game but none when the tournament will begin. So like you said , he will stay sharp for your run at the Cup

There is almost 3 lines for Canada 2. All 8 players listed above are locks for a 2nd Canadian team. Only need to pick 5 more forwards which would be IMO Mike Fisher, Shane Doan, Ryan Smyth, Dustin Penner, and Mike Cammalleri (with lots of debate over these choices). For Team Canada 2 on D would be Mike Green, Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phanuef, Roybn Regr, Stephanie Robidas, Tyler Myers, and Francios Beauchemin (with lots of debate over these choices). Goalies would be Marty Turco, Cary Price, and Cristobal Huet (again with a lot of debate over these choices). Team Canada 2 would have a shot at winning gold. Obviously Team Canada 1 has more talent but Team Canada in 2006 had more talent than the Swiss but ran into a super hot goalie and got shutout 2-0.
