Hobby in Canada
Hey guys,
I was wondering if I was alone with my worries here.
I live in Canada (Montreal specifically) and for those of you are not aware, Basketaball is virtually non-existent around here. People are more excited about 14 years old exhibition hockey than Basket-Ball.
As far as the hobby goes, it's a desert. No store are in the deal.
So I have to buy online, all the time.
Problem is, shipping is actually killing me and I HATE UPS (bad stories in the past with them) So I have to seek sellers with USPS services but sometimes, for a 100$ box, I have to squeeze a 30$ of shipping fees, which is hard on the wallet.
I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or retailers who are 'Canada Friendly'
The guys at Blow Out are great, no disrespect, but they do overcharge with USPS (But offer great deals with UPS, it's just that these guys have a tendancy to just leave your box 'near' your door or to your thrid door neighbor who you don't even know)
So, just going on a limp here, any suggestions?
Thanks guy.
And so far, what d'you think about the 09-10 products? It's a Buy or a Pass?

My grandparents live in Montreal, Canada! I always asks my Aunts if there's card/hobby shops around there but no luck. It's a nice drive there from NYC, I enjoy the scenery especially. As for 09'10 basketball products that are good to buy. I'd definitely try some 09'10 Topps, 09'10 Topps Jumbo, 09'10 SP Game Used. I don't know how you feel about Panini but personally for them I like 09'10 Panini Prestige & 09'10 Donruss Elite

Bump!
I'm living in Ottawa and it sucks trying to find basketball cards. I also have the same kind of question as the OP.
Also are there any other sites that sells lots of boxes like Blowout Cards and Dacardworld.com?
I'm specifically looking for 96-97 Fleer Ultra boxes or 95-96 Upper Deck boxes. I loved both card designs when I collected back then.

i am from ottawa as well and i always go to card shows every month. most of the people here focuses on hockey but i have met a few who are multi-sport collectors.
i have bought most of my cases/boxes from miraj trading. if you buy from the US you will get charged for 20-30 shipping + customs, so i just buy from them as their prices are very reasonable.

Dang...just missed that card show...oh well, will be going to the one in April then. Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah I had just found out about Miraj trading a few weeks ago. Actually went in there and got 4 boxes of the 07-08 Sweet Shot and actually was able to negotiate with the guy about knocking off $5 for each box.

I go to the Toronto Sportscard Expo twice a year and can sometimes get good deals on basketball boxes there. If you want to leave me your contact, I will be going there for the Spring show and can let you know what they have available while I'm there.
