    Brock to return!

Trainers: Brock Lesnar will fight again; timetable for return unknown

by Steven Marrocco on Jan 08, 2010 at 9:15 pm ET
UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (4-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will fight again according to the men credited with turning him from professional wrestling superstar to mixed martial arts title holder.

UFC president Dana White triggered a fresh wave of speculation this week when he declined to comment on Lesnar's health status, leading many to believe the champion could be out of action for an extended period of time – or even out for good.

But Lesnar's trainers, Greg Nelson and Marty Morgan, said the massive fighter will not let illness sideline his career.

"Yes, he will fight," Nelson told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Friday afternoon via text message, echoing an earlier statement from Morgan on Lesnar's future. "When? Not sure as of yet, but he will fight."

Nelson declined further comment on the matter.

Morgan urged the public to respect Lesnar's privacy as he recovered, but he also confirmed Lesnar would return to the cage in an interview with Sportsnet.ca Friday afternoon.

"There's really only a handful of people who know where we're at, whether it's moving forwards or backwards," Morgan said. "A lot of times I think that in this day and age of Facebook and Twitter it almost bugs me that people always need to know what's going on all the time. I understand people, granted, want to know how his health is, but at this point right now we've kind of just kept quiet with what's going on."

Nelson said this past month that Lesnar suffered a severe bout of diverticulitis and is slowly recovering in his Alexandria, Minn. home, but the champ was currently unable to train.

As Lesnar recovers, the UFC has booked an interim title fight at UFC 111 between former champion Frank Mir and top challenger Shane Carwin, who was slated to face the champion before his illness struck.

Lesnar most recent fight was this past July at UFC 100, where he defeated Mir in his first title defense. Lesnar has not spoken publicly since falling ill this past November.

That's awesome news! Can't wait for him to step back into the octagon to defend his title.

Hopefully it'll be against Shane Carwin

I personally want to see Mir again with his "newfound" muscle but am totally cool with Carwin too.
