Adidas happen to be my favorite shoe brand, but really I'm OK with jerseys from Anyone But Nike. How did I not know that Adidas owned Reebok - and that Reebok owned CCM? Gah!
I really don't want to see the jerseys desecrated by ads. This isn't NASCAR (thank god!). Doesn't seem worth it monetarily, either, if it would only generate $4M per team.
Of course, if ads do make it onto jerseys, think of all the patch opportunities for cards! Good luck photo-matching those...

I'm surprised that it hasn't happened already. Take a look at CFL Jerseys:
There is a League Sponsor (Rona) and a Team Sponsor (in this example, Primus).
Granted, I think most football jerseys are pretty ugly (numbers on the front, as opposed to a team logo) and everyone knows that Hockey have the best looking jerseys going.... there's more to mess up in hockey.
The NHL, and it's money-making schemes.... I am surprised they have not done this already. That CFL model works really easy, and you only allow a standard sized patch, and a logo that shouldn't clash with the team colors.
That would make for at least 6 more nice patch cards from a jersey too!

More ads translates into more patches available for cards. Look for more ultra-low numbered patch cards.
Who wouldn't want a piece of a Stuckey's patch, or McDonald's, or ATT, etc...Hidden Content

Remember, revenue = salary cap. $4M per team in revenue means the cap goes up by $2M. That's helpful as many teams are already facing cap crunches.

Unless the owners made sure that future jersey advertising does not count as Hockey Related Revenue...... but that does seem unlikely.

A lot of people don't realize that Adidas has a ton of well known brands under their umbrella:
Adidas owns:
Reebok
CCM
TaylorMade Golf (Which includes Adams Golf under it)
Rockport (Shoes)
Also Adidas/Reebok/CCM took over Koho - so that's another brand you could associate with Adidas
Adidas has all of these brands, but sooooo many people don't associate them with each other.

Blah, no advertising! enuf already, the jerseys should stay "pure"...and if you hit a nice patch, I want it to be the team logo, not some ugly Mcdonalds patch...
I bet they statrt with a small shoulder patch, but before you know it, the jerseys look like the boards do

No more advertising. There is enough on that boards, ice, commercial breaks, arena names and image behind the net. If there is a blank space some genius will fill it. As for increased revenue to add salary cap space. There is no need. A lot of teams spend near their max and a blanket bump in cap space has a null effect. Everyone now has an extra $2 million to spend. It just allows a pay raise for the players.

And that increases the next year's revenue which ups the salary cap. So the owners have to spend more the following year, and where do they get that? They increase ticket prices.
The more money that comes into hockey, the more money goes to the players, the more money comes out of the pocket of fans!
That is a never-ending cycle that always ends with the fans paying more. Why do people always want to justify more hockey related revenue to "help" their team? It doesn't "help" anyone's team. All it does is cost more money to sign the same players! If every team's cap goes up, it doesn't help any one team. It just raises the bar ever so much, so that everything just becomes more expensive -- the tickets, the hot dogs, the beer, etc -- just so millionaire players can make an extra million or two. And it all comes out of YOUR pocket.
"But advertising doesn't cost US more!" Yes, it does. When McDonalds, or AT&T, or Adidas spends more to advertise, it just means that your hamburger, or phone bill, or tennis shoes are going to cost a little bit more next time.SHARKS and CAPITALS Fan +++ Tomas Hertl cards: 512 & counting Hidden Content ......
