    To be fair to Burke.......

    He has never said he was against long term contracts (of the 8, 9, 10, +++ year range). He's said that he doesn't agree with giving them to older players, and front loading them, trying to circumvent the cap. Basically that 80 million for 10 years is fine to give out, if it's 8 million per year. Paying 12 million for 4 years, 7 million for 4 years, and then 2 million for each of the last two is what he's against.

    On the offer sheets - he's never said he was against them, just that he doesn't like them.... and thinks the offering GM should give a curtousy heads up (this is what bothered him about Lowe - he got a call from the media, not Lowe or the Oilers, informing him about it).


    Just saying this becuase - Throwing a big money / long term offer sheet at a 21 year old player would not necessarily make him a liar.

    I still don't believe Stamkos will be anywhere but Tampa next season.

    Well I wouldnt play any lottery numbers your source gives you considering Ive heard from, actual people close to the situation, that Stamkos is close to signing a 5 year deal in the 37-40M range.

    Things may have changed since 3 days ago when I was talking talking to my coach about him, how close to the situation are we talking? That'd be good news for T Bay.

    lamplitersniper - wonder if stevie softened him up because he was looking long term and all indications have been they were never close. I hope they work out a deal despite the fact that I would love to see him in TO.
