Need advice on a framing project

    Hey guys,

I'd like to get a set of 50 cards framed. I don't have a frame and I was thinking about perhaps building it myself. I already figure that the cards will be arranged 5x10, but I don't know what materials or techniques to use to get optimal results. I would like the frame to be black and if possible, would like each card to be in its own "cage", so it would look like a matrix.

Have any of you guys ever done something similar? Any experiences or ideas to share?

    Anything will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!
    Jon

Michaels would be a good place to head for materials. They do a lot of custom framing jobs so they'd probably be able to give you some pointers.

This. Be prepared to pay though.

    Michael's is horribly expensive.
Build it yourself out of wood, paint it and then head to a glass shop for the glass.
I work at a glass shop (on disability right now) and we're constantly putting glass into cases and frames for sweaters, pictures, etc. You could even head down with your idea and see if they'll work with you on it.

There are residue acid free, and glue free applications available today for framing 50 cards.

The result should you take the thing apart some day, it that there will be no loss of card material or quality.

Always use Acid Free - Museum Quality backing paper for any cards to be displayed. It won't yellow of attract a myriad of things that paper attracts.

Keep the cards in a dimly lit room with few windows. Soft lighting to accent the frame.

Remember.... the worst damage to a Hockey Card other than Bike Spokes is the SUN.

If you make sure to get Lo-E coated glass (thinnest Lo-E I know of is 3mm or 1/8th") you won't have to worry too much about the sun. I'd still keep it in a room with minimal windows, but it won't be anywhere near as much of an issue, and it doesn't darken as much as tinting the glass does.

Thanks for all your advice, guys, I really appreciate it! I was going to get Michael's to give me a quote on this, but now I'm afraid of what I should expect! lol

Have any of you guys ever done something similar? Would anyone have pictures of how it came out?

Also, would you advise to leave the cards in their plastic holders? I absolutely want to avoid damaging them through this project.

    Thanks again!

Not to steal your thread, but does anyone know a good place to get the glass for either a jersey frame or a frame for a card collection?

Also, do most people try to get the UV plexiglass or get pieces of real glass cut to the size you need?

    Thanks in advance.

Also, to answer the question above, you don't want to hear the prices that Michael's will quote you on, they are terrifying.

I just had a single card framed. They advised against trying to frame it out of the one-touch, but your situation is much different with the number of cards. Mine was done professionally for $34. If it's something you're going to display proudly and keep for years to come, personally I'd invest the dollars. I have a jersey in there now which is going to cost approx $300. I think the issue for you is dealing with containing that amount of cards without it looking like a hackjob.

If you'd like to see a pro job on a single card I'd be happy to post a pic.

    Good luck

Would you mind posting that pic? I am looking to frame a couple jerseys, but have 1 card that I want to frame along with one of my Hall jerseys as well. Your picture would give me the exact thing I need.

Also, may I ask where you got it done?
