Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward James van Riemsdyk to a six-year extension.
The team announced the deal Tuesday on its official Twitter feed and van Riemsdyk tweeted it was for six years.
Van Riemsdyk was selected No. 2 overall in the 2007 NHL Draft and has played 153 games for the Flyers over the past two seasons, collecting 36 goals and 39 assists.
The 22-year-old finished with 21 goals and 19 assists with a plus-15 rating in 75 games last season.

Looks to be 6 yrs, 25.5 million (4.25/season). If he plays like he did in the playoffs and keeps improving his game that is a great price for the Flyers

Mighty BIG shoes to fill with recent departures.

He should see a healthy bump in his numbers this year, especially given he is so responsible in his own end of the ice.

I like that they locked him up for a while, but he needs to play the way he did in the playoffs. IF he does then this deal is great for the Flyers.

Thats a lot of money to throw around for the potential he is said to have. Nice player but I dont think hes done anything to deserve that kind of payday. I also think its funny that people talk about how much Buffalo overpaid and for Leino (I concede that it is higher than he should be making), while saying the JVR deal is a great one. JVR has 75 points in 153 games and Leino has 73 in 149. Almost identical stats and one is overpaid while the other is a bargain? lol. Hopefully both players can live up to the conracts they got (especially Leino though lol)

Oh and if the argument is playoff production, JVR has 13 points in 32 playoff games compared to Leino's 28 in 37 games

it is all be seen already in this season, should be leader with Giroux in offensive and the new face of the club, certainly the potential to be, but I am for so long contracts for youths rather skeptical, I think a high salary to grow them more harm than help, because they know that they not toil at full blast and nevertheless add to the good money, I feel that Homer was on a training in NYI or daily cup of coffee go with Sather, but again if we win SC, I personally flew to Philadelphia to kiss his feet.
