They have run out of ideas after Limited, Timeless Treasures, Gold Standard, National Treasures and now these. One company can't come up with that many unique products.

Just like with manufactured letter patches, manufactured logoman cards are a slap in the face to the hobby. I wouldn't be willing to pay $100 a pack for this stuff. If you are paying over $200 a pack there should be no manufactured memorabilia and the autos should all be on-card in my opinion. To make things even worse, they put the sticker autos in little cutout boxes that a lot of times will cut off the auto just like in Gold Standard. I'm trying to decide whether this or Gold Standard is the worst product of the year when it comes to what you get for the price you pay. I am an Olajuwon supercollector and pick up just about anything I see of his but the Gold Standard autos with their stickers inside cutout boxes are so ugly that I haven't even bothered to pick up any. I'm thinking the same thing is going to happen with this product. I sure hope that Upper Deck and Topps get their licenses back once the current Panini monopoly is over.

The cut-out boxes with the cut-off signatures should be an embarrassment to the company. This is an obvious design flaw. That fact that it hasn't been corrected is further proof that they know they have a captive constituency with no where else to buy their cards.

Why do they even need a box for the auto? couldnt they just put a blank spot on the card for the sticker?

Exactly. The boxes look like they are the same size at the ones in Gold Standard and there is no way they could have missed out on how many of the autos were cut off. You hit the nail on the head when you say that they know they have a captive constituency. They know they can put out garbage products and that people will buy them just because there is no alternative other than not buying them at all. Even if they did make the cutout boxes big enough they shouldn't be there in the first place. If you are going to use sticker autos (which I understand the need for in lower priced products) just place them directly on the card where they can at least blend in a little. Putting them in cutout boxes only highlights the fact that they are stickers and not on-card.
I have drastically decreased the amount of basketball product that I buy and moved more towards football where you can still find Topps products. I don't know if you collect football but if you have seen this years Finest and Platinum and even the basic Topps set you would wish that Topps still had a basketball license. They came out really nice this year. Even Panini Football is better than their Basketball products. Last year's Contenders Football was one of the best sets of the year. A good portion of the autos were on-card including the best of the rookies. Contenders basketball was horrible this year with their manufactured patches and cut autos.
Imagine pulling a John Wall that looked like this. You will never see anything like this from Panini basketball. An auto on a piece of memorabilia that was actually worn by a player. The cardstock is just as thick as National Treasures. This came out of a pack of regular old Topps Jumbo for $12. The only thing Panini has that compares is the RPAs from National Treasures that you have to pay $400 a pack for.

This product blows. You could tell it was going to blow from the sell sheet. The only way it could've been worse is if they included fake leather autos like they use for Timeless Treasures.

I have only collected basketball my whole life so I am kind of stuck. I basically just got back in this year with my 5-year-old after not collecting since he was born and I was surprised how much the hobby has changed - biggest change being the Panini factor. I just think having more than one company in a space makes all the products better. I also miss Upper Deck because, imo, they always had the best photos of any company.
The only reason to by this product for me at least is the Lakers 80's booklet AU card - and what are the chances of pulling one of those!

Ugh! Please don't mention those fake leather autos ever again. Those might be one of the worst things I've ever seen. Upper Deck did the same thing with Sweet Spot and I didn't like those either but at least they tried to make them look like actual basketball material. Makes me wonder if they have ever made an actual game used piece of basketball with an auto on it on a card. That would be pretty sick. Probably not anything Panini would ever do though.

I agree that having more than one company in a space makes all the products better. That's why Panini's Football products seem to be a lot better than their Basketball. They still have competition in the Football market.
I agree with you too about the photography. I guess last year's Upper Deck will be the last time we see great photography on Basketball cards. It would be nice to see a basic Topps set too. Their Football version came out really well this year. The basic Upper Deck and Topps sets always had the best photography just about every year.
