The Official 2011/12 Columbus Blue Jackets Thread

So I may be about the only major Blue Jackets fan on these boards, but I figured I'd see if anyone wants to talk about the Jackets with me this season...I think Columbus has a great chance to make a run at the playoffs this year with all the new additions.

As seen last night in their opening 3-2 loss to Nashville, they're a completely different team than last year. Carter, Prospal, and Martinek all had an impact last night. Wiz is out seven more games, but I can't wait to get him back. Nash looks to be his normal self with a goal in the opener.

They play in Minnesota tonight...who else wants to Carry the Flag?

Not sure how much I want to "carry the flag" lol, but their biggest challenge this year will be Mason and how well he plays. He's the biggest reason why the will/won't make the playoffs. They finally have the players to surround Nash, have the best defense they've ever had so ultimately it depends on what Mason is able to do. He doesn't have to be Tim Thomas but he at least needs to be solid every night, maybe steal a game here or there, and basically NOT be the reason they lose games.

Haha yeah, that was the only fruity team slogan I could remember at the time...not sure what they're going with this year.

Mason is definitely the key piece this year. He played well last night; the defense didn't give him much help, though (see the last goal allowed). Too many power plays, too. If he can play well, I think they have a great chance. There's no Garon to bail him out this year though, which bothers me...

That's a good thing if you ask me. Forces him to step up. Last year if he struggled they just yanked him. Now he will be forced to play through it. They've also brought in a full time goalie coach. Not sure if that's the answer but we'll see.

I'm a closet Blue Jackets fan. I watched Matt Calvert play while he was here in Brandon, and will always keep an eye out for Jackets stats because of him.

The thing is, they have basically no back-up goalie at the moment...Sanford and Dekanich don't count. I'd like to have a Plan B if Mase plays as well as he did last year. Hopefully the full time goalie coach will help...we shall see.

I'm starting to think the Jackets want to crush any hopes I had for this season as soon as possible...dangit. We need Wiz.

...and the Jackets are pointless after three games after a 3-2 loss to Vancouver. Not quite what I was hoping for...Mase has to pick it up along with the defense, but Vinny Prospal has been a nice addition so far. Cam Atkinson got his first NHL goal tonight, and he's looked good as well. The defense is just killing them, though.

Same here, always watching for former Wheat Kings to see how they're doing in the big show. As for Mason tonight, I don't think you can blame him for this loss. 2 goals were tipped in and the Burrows goal the defence let him have easy access to the front of the net.

Yeah, a lot of the goals are blamed on the defense...but in three games, he's given up ten goals, I believe? Hard to win games when you're giving up three or more goals a game...it'll be big to get Wiz back from his suspension in five games.
