    ebay snipers and a question

    suck.

I am a teenager and i finally find a good price for a wanted card. just minutes ago on two cards I was sniped out.

i can the point of using a sniper software to get the card you want at the most minimal possible price but when your on the end...

also, looking through auctions there are still 3 to 4 days left with a no BIN option and people are bidding. is there a reason? isn't this just driving up the price?

You realize you were in reality, actually outbid because you didn't bid enough, right?

My best advice for snipers is bid higher and snipe with them...

agree with above - dont complain about snipers, just bid high enough not get get sniped

tough to do on a budget (as im also on a card budget)

but my thinking is as long as that person is not trying to hoard the print run, there will always be another one

I have absolutely no idea why this happens either, I sell stuff on and off, usually the cards get one or two bids, I figure that's just guys trying to mark territory, at 39 or 49 or 99 cents it's almost the same as just watching the card. But every now and then there's a bidding war 5 days before the thing ends, WHY????? I'm not complaining, I'll take the money hahahaa.

I am a sniper. I do not use sniper software or websites, I do the dirty work myself. I sympathise with the young man who lost out due to last second bids, but that is the nature of the beast.

But realize, there is an upside and a downside to sniping. I have lost out on many auctions (too many to count) because I forgot when the auction ended and failed to submit a last minute bid. I also lost out on auctions because I cut it too close and could not get another in before the auction closed. Finally, when duking it out with another sniper you never know who will get the last bid.

Having auctions that close at a set time means there will always be room for snipers. The other alternative is to have auctions close only after a predetermined time lapse since the last bid (for example: No bids for 2 hours). I certainly would not like that kind of auction as it could go on forever!

My advice is stick with it. You'll get the cards you want over time. You may have to join the ranks of the snipers, though. Sometimes that is what makes collecting fun. The chase for the card. I wish you luck.

I sometimes will put in a bid just to get a card onto my bid list. I try using the "Watch" list but have missed out on too many cards. I forget to check my watch list and an auction closes and I didn't even put in a bid.

It's just a mental reminder for me. I will not, however, get into a bidding war on a card that has several days left. That is just silly. All it does is drive up the final price!

I usually bid at the 10 second mark. If my bid is not high enough, I have time to submit another.

Overconfidence can be a dangerous thing. There is alot to be gained by being humble.

If it's a card I really want, I just set a high max bid and see what happens. Don't have to deal with all the "sniping" this way.

Ha, ha! Just got sniped myself! Got outbid by 50 cents! Luckily, there is another version of the same card up for sale. At least, I won't have to battle this same bidder again.

    That's how it goes, sometimes!
