Nashville Signs Rinne to 7-year Extension
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=379546
The Nashville Predators locked up one of their prime players on Thursday before he ever hit the open market.
The team signed Pekka Rinne to a seven-year contract extension worth $49 million. Rinne had been playing in the final year of his current deal.
"Today's signing is further evidence of our ownership's commitment to keeping our core intact," said Nashville president and general manager David Poile in a statement. "This is the first step of a process designed to retain our key players and leaders. Pekka has grown with our franchise, just recently established our franchise record for career shutouts and is now recognized as one of the game's elite players. We're thrilled to know that he will be backstopping our franchise for several years to come."
Huge signing for the Preds. That takes the goalie off the market, what is to come for Weber and Suter?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Glad to see him getting so respect with some big money. One of the unsung heroes and big time players of the NHL and well deserves the money IMO.

huge boost to the team. Without Rinne its hard to see Nashville being close to a contender

As a Kings fan this makes me ask the question:
What will Jonathan Quick command now when talks come around?
He'll be getting similar coin I imagine.
Cya Jonathan Bernier, you're a nice prospect and all but............

Luckily for both of us, BG, our favoured goalies are still good and young, and won't be going into UFA status for a couple more years yet. That said, I reckon that both Quick and Price are going to be signing some pretty large contracts this coming summer.

rinne looked very impressive when they played the hawks, definintely top 2 if not the best goalie in the central

Great signing. I suspect that probably means the end of Suter in Nashville..... I've been assuming that they'd be able to keep 2 of the 3.... and I can't see them letting Weber get away.
