Young Guns - RC or Not RC
There have been a few posts recently asking about Young Guns and why some are RC and some are not. I have compiled a listing of all Youngs Guns that are not RCs (according to "the book"). Someone posted earlier, and I agree, that it is horrible to see someone overpaying for a YG card simply because they are told it is RC

Due to the NHL Lockout there were very few rookies. So, most Young Guns cards from this set are "flashback" rookies (Gretzky, Lemiuex, Modano, etc...)
UD did manage to score two new rookies and several vintage rookies
NO 04/05 Young Guns are true RC except the following:
181 – Fast, Brad, 182 – Evans, Brennan, 194 – Baker, Hobey, 199 – Granato, Cammie
205 – Ragulin, Alexander
2010 - 11 UD
452– Bonino, Nick

quick question, is there a reason why "the book" didn't list any of the 07/08 as YG RC, but only RC? They are clearly YG RC.
Is it just to save space?
Thanks!

Hard to say. there are several years where they list cards as YG and others where they don't. Just messin' with us, I guess.

I suggest that you pass this information to Bauldie the hockey OPG manager so he can make the corrections needed in the database.
The reason why they are flag as rookies is because UD list them as rookie and we have a specific importer for them and it will flag the card as a rookie when it does say rookie in the list they distribute on their website. This is why it is important for you member to report it to him so we can assure the card database is more accurate and less confusing for those who never saw the errors or new collectors that do not know much and if beckett or us say it is a rookie in the card database then they think it is a rookie.

You're right, but I can't imagine that anyone is paying a particularly big premium for any of those cards.
'Young Guns' are a subset, typically filled with rookies...... though as you've pointed out, UD has included vets in the past.
Saying 'Young Gun' on the card though, doesn't make it a rookie card. The accepted definition of a rookie card has always been a card of a player released in a license set of NHL cards, from the first year such cards existed. The cards you're listing, as you know, those players had cards in earlier sets. In some cases, it was even Series 1 vs Series 2 (i.e. the Lidstrom from 91-92 UD. His Canada Cup card in Series 1 is considered a RC, his Young Guns card from Series 2 is not).

Oddly enough, Pacific were really the only company that timed a Rookie Card to the players first actual year.
Sure they were late with guys like Luongo, Gomez, Marleau etc, but in terms of actually taking the ice in the NHL, they are the only company that was correct in regard to time parameters.
Part of the reason why 99-00 Dynagon Ice, Prism, and Crown Royale still have a relatively strong following.
