It means not the pre-season or playoffs. As such, yes Vancouver was a very dominant team last season.

The Bruins are the best team in the NHL right now. The Canucks just may be the 2nd best team. Surprisingly the Rangers might be the 3rd best team. I want a Bruins vs Canucks rematch in the Stanley Cup final with Vancouver winning.

Neither of these team are even one of the five most dominat team in NHL history.

Vancouver barely collected more than 70% of available points last year, and Boston is barely over 70% now (both teams were / are right around 71%).

There's been 5 teams that have picked up at least 80% of available points.

Considering the Bruins are on pace 117 points (which would tie them with last year's Vancouver team) that doesn't even make these teams the most dominate since the lockout.

If you're looking at "regular season dominance" (and ignoring the playoffs) the 09-10 Capitals and 05-06 Red Wings were both better.

Absolutly. The Canucks were the most dominant team in last year's regular season, and the Bruins were the most dominant team in last year's playoffs. No questions about it, and I would never try to argue otherwise.

I'll even suggest that a rematch in the finals looks like a good bet this year.

Both are simply untrue. The Canucks of last year's regular season were only the 3rd best team since the lockout, and the Bruins (if they keep this up) are on pace to tie them.

If I go back and look throughout NHL history, there are 5 teams which earned 80% or more of their points. For a modern team to even be in the conversation of "most dominant regular season team ever" they would need to earn at least 132 points.

Exceptionally good? You bet! Serious Cup contenders? For sure! They were last year, and they are again this year. Amoung the most dominant teams of all time? They're not even in the top 10.

Fair enough. Question though, which teams and years are those 5? Were they in Original Six years? Were they ridiculously stacked like teams could do before the lockout?
Too many variables for this to be a serious discussion, kind of like Crosby vs Gretzky vs Howe.

As for the Bruins and the Canucks they are not the 2 most dominant teams in NHL history but definitely of the past season and the current season so far. Also both teams got off to bad starts this year. Now they are rolling. I'm a Leafs fan 1st and Canucks fan 2nd but again I want the Canucks to win the Cup this year. They have a team that is ready to win while the Leafs have a team that I just want to make the playoffs.
