People.com, SI.com, and a bunch of other big sites reported he'd died but they all look pulled and I guess he's still hanging on.

I don't see how it's a "sad day for sports" and I won't pretend to be saddened by it. In my eyes it was absolutely disgusting to see all those PSU students riot over his firing, bunch of sheep. Simply, flat out disgusting to see those students put him up on this pedestal above his direct neglect of a scandal IN HIS PROGRAM that ruined the lives of a bunch of pre-teen boys. "But, but its Joe Pa, you can't do that to him!" It is a shame his legacy was and will forever be ruined by the scandal, but he brought it on himself.

    Amen.

lol. I've always liked Joe Pa, but I believe he should have done more, much more. Those were serious accusations, you should be contacting the police, not the athletic director or whatever. I wouldn't put all the blame on him, but I feel he could have and should have done a whole lot more.

What is unfortunate is that with the time of his passing and the scandal, he will be more remembered for the scandal than for all the good he did for college football.

NO- I dont condone what he did, and NO- he shouldnt be held blameless- but I think he will be remembered more negatively than he may deserve.

Also, it seems to me that after he was fired, he kind of gave up living- he went from fairly healthy to really sick and deceased in a super quick time. I think the scandal and all of the implications may have taken away his will to keep going- but this is my opinion only, and it may be totally incorrect

This right here!!! Yes he should have done more to stop this tragedy but he wasnt the one who actually commited the inconcievable acts. I mean its almost like you hear more negativity cast upon JoePa than you do Sandusky himself.

RIP Coach, at least you dont have to deal with this anymore

I want to thank everyone for keeping emotions in check on here. There is the chance this conversation can get ugly very quickly but I just wanted to thank everyone for not taking it there.

I became a Penn State fan a while ago. With no major college football teams in the NYC region, aside from Army, I took a hold to Penn State. I was shocked by what had happened. Many people dropped the ball and many got hurt. Joe Paterno will always be a great college coach. However, I lost a lot of respect for him but I won't pass final judgement on the issue until ALL of the facts come out, which should happen during Sandusky's trial. I hope we learn that Paterno did all he could. Although I doubt it, I can hope. One day soon we should have the full story and until then we shouldn't pass judgement. Not yet. The truth will either preserve or damn JoePa's legacy.

the fact that our governor here in PA has order flags to half mast is a joke. when was the last time our state lowered its flags for fallen soldiers or veterans? give me a break.
