Then another gets listed today and sold for $149, guess he thought it was a steal after seeing the last one for $500...lol.

Meanwhile the five priors all sold under $40, plus another three in my personal collection.

Multi-colour patch autos from The Cup with unique patches will always command a hefty premium. Always. We've seen this in many threads as of late. Some big guns being put out to market.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Some crazy bidding there, especially with one variable right now, Nielsen might easily be traded by the end of the month.

Has nothing to do with the player and his status with this or that team, really. It's the set builders going to war with one another on cards that are listed by two of the most well-known and reputable Cup breakers in the hobby.
The big one was from BreakAwayCards - see a recent thread started by him here: https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1574321
The second big one was from mwdonald, who has a vast archive of Cup RC's scanned & saved.
When people buy from these two gentlemen, they know they are getting the real deal.Last edited by RGM81; 02-06-2012 at 04:01 PM.

Your not dealing with an average collector, these are clearly the hidden hobbiest with deep pockets and a goal in mind: the best cup sets possible.
Think of regular hobby guys as a sports car owner.
And there are some high-end collectors ... people who drives a Porsche... etc.
And then the people off the charts ... driving the Ferrari's with a giant Ferrari collection.
Or look at Barrett-Jackson auctions.
Think of a nice classic Mustang... at like 50k or less.
And there is really really nice expensive Mustang that goes on Barrett-Jackson... 100k, 200k, 300k, 400k... 1 million?
Yeah same car... better condition, better kept, authentic parts....
...
Yeah same card... better condition, better patches, authentic and proven owners...

The people with the Giant Ferrari collections, collect the best in Vintage, They don't waste their time with Novelty Mini Cooper Convertibles such as this Nielsen card..

Not all of them do.
There are vintage collectors like said, and there are modern collectors as well.
All those sales are from Modern collectors. There are definitely more than a few of them around on these boards.
...
There are tons of people who will pay Ferrari prices for Mini Coopers, just to have the first, the best, or the special editions... it applies to everything, just depends on the spectrum.
All you see here is that on the far end of it.

What I think is crazy is that people pay a premium just because the card is from a certain seller. I know the background of breakawaycards but I guess I just don't understand
why his cards get an automatic premium over another seller's similar card
$135

Then this one with a similar (and better, in my opinion) patch might not even sell for $20
