For those that love the history of hockey, love older HOF memorabilia and do not follow the ups and downs of rookies ITG is the preferred choice.

I am in this camp too and the 'lower' resale prices are a plus for me. It has allowed me to build a fantastic HOFer memorabilia collection that didn't force me to re-mortgage my home (well...maybe increase it a little bit :).

The owner of the company is a member of this forum and has answered this question a few times because it seems to come up every one in a while.
They had a license in 03-04. Go check out some "04-05 Franchises" for a truly beautiful set. We don't have many in the inventory system, but here's one of mine (available):

That was one of the last sets where ITG could use NHL logos.
In 2005 UD offered the NHL & NHLPA a 5 year exclusive license offer. ITG was not invited to make a bid and from 2005-2010, we've had a UD monopoly. in 2010 Panini got in on the action and again, ITG was not invited (or the bid was unceremoniously ignored, I'm not sure which).
We're now into year two of the Panini/UD era and who knows how long the NHL/NHLPA will continue to snub ITG?
Cheers,
reoddai

I love ITG and I think ITG Ultimate is one of the best sets made year after year. For one the quality, you buy a box of ITG Ultimate every single card is slabbed with multiple serial numbers and are always mint with no problems otherwise. The Cup is UD's greatest set, but how often do we see cards come out of those with little dings and chipping on them.
ITG doesnt get the credit it needs, id buy a box of ITG Ultimate over The Cup any day of the week.

Not having a license definitely doesn't help. The card design is another problem IMO. I know that ITG has asked for input regarding that and I think they'll come out with a winning formula sometime in the future... A lot of their cards unfortunately look too similar and I am particularly attracted to glossy cards which UD seems to master. I also like vivid colors, a little foil and spectacular designs and that's something that Panini is able to achieve very well.
ITG unfortunately doesn't offer me any of that. White, golden beige, red and grey are DULL colors and that's all I see on their cards. They need to freshen up their color palette, mix it up a bit! You don't need a team logo to make a card look good.

To add on this one, their new set Captain-C actually introduces a full foil base set! Im actually pumped to see this and is their first step in brightening up the cards for sure

I agree with this to a point. I think that some of the cards could be "brighter or shinier" but I don't think the vintage stuff should be. The dirty gritty look works for the vintage era of hockey

ITG has been growing on me ever since I saw RGM's Carey Price masked men redemption with that sick patch. Since then I started tracking down the masked men of Howard and Bobrovsky which has led me to buying a couple of boxes of BTP. Then Enforcers came out and included Probert so I had to bust a couple just to try for a Probert auto (didn't get one).
I used to think ITG was boring second tier cards but lets face it ITG has the best patches and game used cards anyone has ever seen.
I just don't care for ITG ultimate as I don't care for the slabs but other than that and no license ITG is perfect.
