Sabres are today's winners. They made out like bandits. A first rounder for Gaustad, and then the swap for Hodgson.
Tough for any team to beat that by Suppertime tonight.

Kassian better be the second coming of Cam Neely or Buffalo has pooched us twice , Gilbert Perrault and Hodgson ....

He did, weeks ago.
Nash (according to Howson) said he wanted out..... and based on all the rumors.... there was a list of 5 teams he was willing to be traded to.

You ran out of patience with Neely, It would be a nice example to use, but you were burned on him as well.

Hmm...this is a whole mess. I heard that there were only a few teams he would waive it for (Nashville not being one), but this sounds like a lot of he-said, she-said. Just fire Howson, dangit.

All I can say is that it's really tough to see your PC player for your favourite team get traded. Don't know what to think of the Hodgson trade yet. Canucks short term may be better. Maybe Kassian could be something great. But I am still in shock. I can't believe Buffalo didn't have to give up more than Kassian. Really hard to believe.

Well, I suppose "he did" was not the right way ofme phrasing it. Think of this conversation:
"Hi Scott. I've decided this teams sucks, and I want out."
"So, ummm, Rick, does that mean you'll wave your NTC??"
"Obviously. Here's the 5 teams I'd like to go to. Make it happen and I'll waive it."
It's pretty much the same deal as Danny Heatley a couple of years ago..... and to a lesser extent, Ryan Smyth last summer.
Heatley wanted out of Ottawa - but also held a NTC, so he could veto any trade he didn't like (and he did, he blocked a trade to Edmonton).
Smyth told Lombardi last summer that he wanted to be traded to Edmonton, but he also held a NTC - so he could block any other deal. The Kings granted his request and sent him back.
Howson was stuck in a bad spot with this, but he really messed up in the press conference. He NEVER should have said that Nash asked to be traded. Hint at it, dance around it, but never admit it. Now that he's thrown Nash under the bus, there is no chance of saving the relationship.

Neely is most comparable to Grabner in this sense. I fear Hodgson/Kassian is the new Kessel/Seguin debate.

Sounds like some of the basketball stars these days...like I said, Howson needs to go. As much as I love paying Wiz $33 million, trading away a ton for Carter, and now throwing Nash under the bus...ugh. Before long, the Jackets will be in Canada for good.

A lot of Oilers fans give a lot of grief to Tambellini's management abilities, but I'm eternally grateful that the team decided to wait and hire him instead of promoting Howson when he was the assistant GM.

Howson is an idiot...just look at some of his other deals he's done. If Nash approached him for a trade, wouldn't he have waived his NTC?
