IMO, he shouldn't be allowed to play.

He's "within" the organization but then again ... no, not really.

Players who sign or play after the trade deadline should not be allowed to play in the playoffs with the exception of call-ups from the AHL (those who signed once again before the NHL deadline).

The AHL has full ties with the NHL and its existence is for the NHL team to have players develop and play for the big team when ready or when there is an injury, suspension ... etc.

If the player is not injured, not on the teams roster list, or AHL list he should NOT be allowed to participate in the playoffs after the deadline day.

Simple as that.

I don't care if he is Crosby, Gretzky or whomever.

You can't just leave and come back when you want. He wasn't even within the NHL scope, just a player who ditched and decided to come back when he wants.




Radalov should only play if he came back before the NHL deadline. Simple as that, regardless of his existent contract or not.

Sooner or later we are going to have the NHL lend players to Russia, Sweden, or sign kids in the WHL, OHL, and have them play during the playoffs where cap doesn't matter.

This is also not setting any precedent. This is following precedent that was already set (see my comment on Semenov). Yes Radulov is a better player than the ones this has been previously done for, but I don't think that changes the argument.

I agree - it does open things up for manipulation of the cap, or even total manipulation of the contract.

The NHL needs to get a proper transfer agreement done with the KHL - so this sort of thing won't happen.

The Preds claim that they still hold his contract, and that "it's like having a player come back from injury."

Except the CBA has specific guidelines for things like injuries and how players can and must be treated with regards to it. This situation is very, very different.

I think this will set a very bad precedence. What's to stop anyone from doing this intentionally? Don't like the team you're on, go get some KHL money and come back when they're doing better ! Need to circumvent the cap until the playoffs hit and the cap goes away? Have him "go awol" to the KHL !

Sorry. If he wants to come back, he should have to do it at the beginning of the season and honor his FULL contract, not just the last two weeks of the season. What's the point of having a suspension list if the suspension has absolutely no impact on anything?

So... the justification is that he's not going to be paid what he's worth for the next 13 (or less) games + playoffs, then be released from a full year of contract obligation in exchange for six weeks of work? Seems to me like any star player on an entry level deal would LOVE that.... punishment.

This should apply the same way that Turco does in Boston ~ he wasn't on the roster at the cutoff, so he should be ineligible for the playoffs at the very least.

But my biggest concern is that he should not be released from 82 games of service in exchange for 13 at the best possible time.

Let's be realistic here, Radulov won't make squat difference. The guy is going to play out like every other Russian born player, come back and get a huge payday and float like lint.

No, were talking about players like Vishnevsky, Fedor Fedorov, Samsonov, Petr Nedved, Alex Kovalev, Saprykin, Davydov, Gusev, Morozov, Korolev, Viktor Kozlov, Kovalenko, Kuznetsov, both Mironovs, Novoseltsev, Oksuita, Petrov, Pushkarev, Yachmenev, Zyuzin , Zherdev, Krutov who cried like Floppa after every shift. Countless others that I cannot remember.

For every Pavel Datsuk and Sergie Brylin in the NHL, there are 10 Alex Kovalevs who simply don't give a crap.
