Its funny how some people think they are OWED everything....this idiot that broke into your house stealing your stuff....putting your family in danger...now wants you to pay him....Make sure you have the officers that were at your house come to court to testify on your behalf....This should REALLY help you with your defense...people like that just sickens me....also need to keep a watch on ebay for your stuff too....sorry this happened to you....I had about the same thing happen to me...just not any sports memorabilia...it was family memories(christmas ornaments, stuff my boys made in school) and a rocking chair that my wife rocked both boys in....and kitchen stuff....but I didnt walk in on them....good thing too...with me being a pro wrestler...they would not have walked out....lol

Seriously, this is what I was thinking. In a court of law, I'm sure they won't get what they're looking for. Talk about a frivolous lawsuit...

Noah, I'm sorry to hear this. There are no words which can express the feeling that you must have felt at that instance. Like you've said many times, the stuff of this world pales in comparision to the safety of your family in an instance like this. I love my collection but should this happen to me I would be humbled to lose it all in comparison to getting to keep my family safe. Best of luck to you.

And don't worry about your stuff being sold anywhere. No one wants to buy Notre Dame stuff anyway :) Just kidding pal!

Sorry that you and your wife had to go thru this. Hope your stuff turns back up and gets back to your hands.

I've actually seen this kind of thing happen, and they won both times sadly. Once case was a dog, and the dog bit the intruder...he won a lot of $$. The other was in fact a shooting, and the intruder sued and won. That was years ago though. The system is awful!!

If I read correctly you waited until the cops came before you went after him? Seems like a weird thing to do.

I wouldn't worry about it to much though

You can always consider a countersuit. There seems to be some possibilities such as conversion for the stolen memorabilia, trespass, and whatever other options might be available in your jurisdiction. When you speak with your attorney it wouldn't be an awful idea to discuss some of those options

With a countersuit what would you expect someone to get? This individual will be leaching off the government his whole life, whether it be meals, medical, ect while in jail/prison or while on the streets with government subsidized programs.

You almost certainly wouldn't recover anything in a countersuit from a gang member since he probably has no money so he'd never pay anyways. I meant it more in regards to offsetting anything he may get awarded should he happen to win in his assault suit.
