Rangers get on the board first. On the immediate play the Caps get a scoring chance and Johansson is tripped, the result he and the puck both go into the net.

No Call.. Brutal non tripping call. Refs need to be perfect in light of certain teams getting breaks depending on regular season finish, and other's getting non-calls when it is very apparent that a penalty should have been called.

Careful, or you'll be on Bettman's hitlist.

Rangers fast transition to the Rookie Krieder with a partial. Hammers it home on the deflected slapshot. Holtby should have had it.

Next series Rags with pressure, Richards out of the corner, holds the puck, and hammers a wrist-shot under Holtby, again, should have been stopped.

Rangers lead 3-1 with 11:00 left

Couple bad goals allowed by Holtby. The 3rd goal is especially poor. Misapplication of the V-H stance is becoming quite prevelant among NHL goalies.

Rangers play sound fundamentals in the 3rd and win the game. Excellent fore-check by the Rags and using their wingers size to control play along the boards.

Lundqvist made the saves when he had to and the Rangers walk away with the all important first game.

Rangers dialed it up a notch in the third...and Lundqvist is looking better every game.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Good first game win for the Rags. Still plenty of hockey to be played, so I will reserve any premature exuberance or confident predictions.

Dan Girardi, not a small man by any stretch, threw a clean, hard body check into Ovi in the first (?) period. Result? Ovi standing and Girardi on his butt. Granted Ovi saw it coming, but that man is as strong as an ox!

Ovy plays at 240 plus pounds, he's a bit of a muscular load, and with the speed he carries, you usually come out on the losing end of a hit.
