eBay Misspelling Costs Me a PC Item, and the Seller Some $$$

It drives me nuts when people spell it "Josh Georges." It's slightly amusing when it's the Habs' equipment manager...

But when it's something that is incredibly tough to find, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-12-MCDO...-/140741932084

I get less amused. I don't always remember to search for the screwed up spelling version, and sometimes stuff falls through the cracks as such. And so this thing went for considerably less than it very well could have.

Ah well, there's a couple copies up now, so here's hoping! :)

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I can totally relate to this Richard. I have missed a few Richard Brodeurs with the spelling Broduer. It's amazing how many times this happens with both Richard and Marty. Not that I am gifted in spelling as I have a Lundqvist FT in the trading room with "Lunquist" in the title

There is a website out there, don't know if you've heard of it, call "Fatfingers.com". You type in a word and they search ebay for mispellings and variations. I heard about it in an article where people were making incredible buys on eBay by intentionally searching for misspelled words such as :"labtop" and "camra"

I, myself have used fatfinger.com to aquire some excellent Eric Lindors cards. I've even gotten some Lindross ones as well!

    Knock-offs

Misspellings also are common on cheap imitation or knock-off items.

Do you really think that the Canadiens would have misspelled the player's name and allowed it to go public.

That's interesting - I'm going to check out that site! I have spent some time learning the ebay advanced search techniques (complex searches using "", (), * etc and that's helped me find some great 'oddball' listings through the years.

    Haha...

    Same here...
    Barrasso - Barasso - Barraso
(I missed some huge PC-cards in last year because of this problem....)
But I also got some huge STEALS because of that seller misspelled his name, but unfprtunately happens very seldom....

Hedberg - Hedburg (happens very seldom and mostly with crappy cards, but sometimes with auctions for autographed pucks)

Considering that the gloves in the photo above were purchased directly from the Montreal Canadiens equipment sale and I have photos of Josh wearing the gloves, the smart money is on "Yes." Thanks for trying to cast doubt on the legitimacy of my game-worn items, though. :)

Nice find Richard and congrats on the new PC addition! Poor spelling can be great and frustrating at the same time. I have run into it with Jari Kurri, and a few others. I would imagine Staal collectors run into this a ton considering how often I see their names spelled wrong in many places.

My mistake. Obviously misread it. I was thinking you got the gloves but not the gold mcdonalds card
