    Your Teams Draft Blunders.

Just the top 10 picks based on draft position.

    1. Rick DiPietro , not sure another has killed a franchise and still does.
    2. Dave Chyzowski , according to NHL.com the worst # 2 pick ever.
    3. Jean-Pierre Dumont, did OK away from the team
    4. Scott LaChance
    5. Nino Niedereitter , I know it's early but he's so over rated.
    6. Scott Scissons
    7. Okposo , only 7th pick ever, so here by default.
    8. Taylor Pyatt, late bloomer and if not for time with Sedins a bust.
    9. Brett Lindros, again NHL.coms worst pick ever at the 9th slot.
    10. Branislav Mezei

The only other team with a scarier top 10 is maybe New Jersey (Patrick Stefan (1st), Neil Brady(3rd), Rocky Trottier(8th))

    Red Wings:

The Red Wings only 1st Round First Overall Choices..... 3 In the teams history have all been enormous Busts.

Claude Gauther in 1964 I believe - didn't play at all
Dale McCourt - Vastly overrated and could not handle the NHL speed.
Joe Murphy - Nothing but a Bum

First Round Goaltender - Tim Chevelade, one step up from Andy Racicot, and could not stop a Beachball.

Adam Oates. Red Wings - Didn't show patience with him. Never should have let him go

These are the biggest mistakes that come to mind. That and trading for Bob Essenssa and Doug Houda.

Oates wasn't drafted by the Wings, they signed him as an undrafted free agent from R.P.I. Although I do agree that they gave up on him far too early.

Jersey didn't draft Stefan... Atlanta Thrashers did.

There are so very many for the Habs that we could field an entire roster of horrid picks.

Not one of the players selected by Montreal in 1999 ever played a single NHL game.

The other one that stinks to the top of Mount Royal was 1995...Habs took Terry Ryan 8th overall. Three spots later? Jarome Iginla.

2003...most ridiculous draft class in NHL history. Andrei Kostitsyn. Same draft at #40 they took Cory Urquhart. 9 slots later went Shea Weber.

The list goes on and on.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

The Wild have a whole list of definite first round busts from '04-'07 (Thelen, Pouliot, Sheppard, Gillies) and then a few that were iffy in '08 and '09 (Cuma, injury prone and only just played his first NHL game this season, and then Leddy who we traded to the Hawks). That means the Wild have essentially missed out on six consecutive first rounders and the two "book ends" before and after would be Burns in '03 and Granlund in '10. Yes...that means the Wild have a very good reason why they have sucked so much lately.

Kings one's off the top of my head:

Aki Petteri Berg, Lauri Tukonen, Konstintin Pushkarev, Pavel Rosa, Jamie Storr all come to mind.

Oh and Fukufuji, though he was a late pick if I recall so not too big a waste like the others.

I think the Red Wings made up for some of their bad draft choices with some very good ones the past 20 years or so:
    Franzen 97th overall
    Howard 64th overall
    Filppula 95th overall
    Zetterberg 210th overall
    Datsyuk 171st overall
    Holmstrom 257th overall

The entire core of their current team was picked 3rd round or lower...

The thread is about Draft Blunders. I'm sticking to the topic, not going away from it.

I am aware of what the Red Wings have done, I've been a fan 55 years.

    Calgary Flames
    never picked 1st through 5th
6th Daniel tkchuk or rico fata take your pick
That would be it for blunders in the top 10 as they have not picked often in the top 10.

Although the biggest draft blunder my team has committed is picking Trevor Kidd at 11 while Brodeur was drafted at 20th in the same year
