    And a follow-up:

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie If Staal won't re-up in PIT, where he loves it, not expected to extend with anyone else who may trade for him. Except perhaps Carolina. #bro

All this really came down to, is Pittsburgh wouldn't give Staal a "No-Trade" nor a "No-Movement" clause in the contract. Thus, once they signed Baby Sindy and got around to Malkin, it would be a free-for-all when Pit announced that Staal would be available. A crappy team would likely make the best offer and he'd find himself in Columbus, Edmonton or somewhere else, that you wouldn't want to play or live.

Today's athletes are selfish but in this case, can't blame him - especially when he's only a year away from becoming a UFA.

I don't blame Staal either. He wants the opportunity to be a superstar on a team, not the 3rd or 4th ranked forward/3rd line center who only moves up due to injury. On a few teams he is a #1 center including Toronto. He could be a 80-90 player with the right role. I think Toronto would offer him all the opportunity that he wants because he is driven to excel. He already has a Stanley Cup so now it is about him and proving what he can do in the NHL.

As I've said before, he will be playing in Carolina. I actually thought he'd play in Pittsburgh this year, but it wouldn't suprise me if he is traded. Soon.

Edmonton is much, much nicer than Columbus in which to live. He should keep an open mind, as many teams don't react well when somebody appears as if they are throwing the toys out of their crib.

Just listening on the radio draft, said he really wanted to play with his brother...so he just got his wish,...and, apparently Crosby is good friends with Parise, and now they have some cap space to take a run at him...Talk about loaded at center if that happens...
