No I don't think so. That would have been the best case scenario as I think I could have gotten a return. The seller apologized and said he's new to selling. I checked his history and he had bought a ton of baseball stuff and hadn't sold anything.

He probably got thrown by the whole 1988-89 on the back of the card is 1989-90 phenomenon. Still, you gotta be sure before auctioning things off.

A conspiracy theory would be that he knew it would go for the larger amount and figured I might not bother to follow it up. I did have to message him twice.

Either way, I'm glad it worked out and I wasn't out $23.00 for a lesser set.

I just got a message asking if I sent his set back.

If I send it I'll be out the $7 it costs to ship it.

Should I ask him for the $ to ship it back? If I mail it back I will give him negative feedback and I will tell him that. Is this fair? Please, a bit more feedback before I message him back.

Here's what I wrote. Didn't even need any guidance, did it all by myself lol

    Hi Peter,

    This is a tough predicament.

I would be an unhappy buyer to have to return the set to you and I pay $7.05 to ship it therefore paying $7.05 for a listing mistake. You wouldn't be too happy about having to pay the $7.05 to have it sent. The set is only going to sell for between $8 and $20 minus eBay/Paypal fees and $7.05 for shipping.

Tell me what you think we should do. I'm 32 with a wife and a child and I do this for a hobby. I'm not out to keep cards or tarnish reputations but I'd really like to come out of this not having to be out anything.

    Thanks,
    Greg

It's really unfair for him to ask you to pay for return shipping on his mistake. I think you wrote a very fair message to him and a very appropriate one. Kudos to you!

As a seller, I've sent people the wrong item before a couple times. My general rule is if it's worth less than $10 I tell you to keep it and I send ou the correct one free of charge. If its $10-20 I just ask that you keep the item and refund your $.

My general rule is: why should you have to pay for my mistake?

He's asking for my address to "mail the money".

I'm weary of this because he can "stop payment" on a written check if I give him negative feedback.

    Such a waste of time.

Not if you cash it first.
