The Official Democratic Party Platform

I wanted to be "fair and balanced"......so, since I posted the GOP Platform, here is the Democratic Party official platform. (Once again, my own commentary will be in RED)

TAXES

The Democratic platform calls for extending the middle-class tax cuts for the 98 percent of American families who make less than $250,000 a year, and makes a promise not to raise taxes on them.

^Well, that seems very reasonable....


ABORTION

The Democratic platform states that it "unequivocally" supports Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal, and "supports a woman's right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay."
The platform states: "Abortion is an intensely personal decision between a woman, her family, her doctor and her clergy; there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way."

^WHAT??? Small government by the democrats.....hmm, I wonder why the GOP is against Small government for a women's CHOICE at a very safe medical procedure which the SCOTUS already ruled in favor of???


GAY MARRIAGE

The Democratic platform supports the movement to get equal treatment under the law for same-sex couples.
The platform says: "We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference." The platform opposes "federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection under the law" to same-sex couples.

^WOW, another Small Government position.....and WOW, another issue where the GOP is AGAINST small government and want to DICTATE their morality down our throats!!!
Good Job Dems....so far 3 for 3!


IMMIGRATION

The platform states that "Democrats are strongly committed to enacting comprehensive immigration reform." Immigration overhaul would include bringing "undocumented immigrants out of the shadows," requiring illegal immigrants "to get right with the law, learn English and pay taxes" to get on a path toward citizenship. It also calls for a visa system that meets the country's "economic needs, keeps families together and enforces the law." It acknowledges that administrative fixes are not permanent. "Only Congress can provide a permanent, comprehensive solution."

^A very humanistic approach to a very big problem, I fully support laws such as the "Dream Act" and I fully oppose the GOPs insane decision to want to DEPORT every single illegal fully knowing that it would break up families.....and the fact that that is NOT a solution at all.


HEALTH CARE

The platform pledges to continue building on the new health care law. It says accessible, affordable, high-quality health care is part of the American promise, that Americans should have the security that comes with good health care, and that no one should go broke because they get sick. "No law is perfect and Democrats stand willing to work with anyone to improve the law where necessary, but we are committed to moving forward," the platform says.

^You can criticize ObamaCare all you want.....but here are the FACTS.....#1 SCOTUS ruled in FAVOR of it, #2 At the very least the Dems are TRYING to do something about America's TERRIBLE Health Care system, meanwhile the GOP's plan is to Repeal and Replace.....LOL, replace with what???? They have ZERO ideas!


DEFENSE

The platform says Democrats have responsibly ended the war in Iraq, put the al-Qaida terrorist organization on the path to defeat with the killing of Osama bin Laden and reversed the Taliban's momentum to set the stage for the drawdown of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Democrats back further reductions in the nuclear weapons stockpile, building on the hard-fought U.S.-Russia treaty that Obama got through the Senate in December 2010. Democrats also say they have an "unshakable commitment to Israel's security," and Obama will do all in his power to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Democrats say they want to maintain a strong military, but argue that in the current fiscal environment, tough budgetary decisions must include defense spending. They noted that Democrats and Republicans agreed last summer in the deficit-cutting plan to reduce military spending.

^OK, I have mixed feelings about this.....on one hand I like the reduction of nuclear weapons and the possibility of reducing the defense spending.....on the other hand I DON'T BELIEVE THEM FOR ONE SECOND.....furthermore, I HATE our "unshakable commitment to Israel".....they can take care of themselves, they don't need the U.S to babysit and waste unnecessary human life, money, and resources!




Overall, this platform reminded me why I was a democrat for so many years, they strive for progress and look forward, unlike the GOP that is always looking backwards to the "Good ol' days" (which is a complete fabricated world!).

The problem is that, the Democrats don't follow through to the things they say, Obama has been a perfect example of a president that made numerous promises and yet we got barely any change.

However, As I have already said numerous times, the alternative is much, much, MUCH.....WORSE!!!

The Democrats have my full support and I am 100% in the Obama bandwagon .......(If only because I have no other choice).

I agree with all your points except for abortion but you can blame the GOP whenever a woman has to have an abortion because they are the ones who are against contraception and sex ed.

yeah, don't blame the female or male responsible, they are too dumb to know better. only the government is smart enough to teach them you can get pregnant from unprotected sex, thank goodness for obama and the others, saving us from our own stupidity and allowing us the freedom to kill our unwanted babies, because we have better things to do.

Everyone's hands are in the cookie jar and shares the blame, both the male and female, the school system with the joke of sex ed called abstinence only, followed by the conservatives and the church. The ironic part about it is that even though all of the formentioned parties contributed to the abortion the only one who suffered in the long run was the unborn child who was never given a chance to live and was killed before birth.

the stats are against you, the states that preach abstinence only education have the HIGHEST teen pregnancy rates....

In many Western European countries they have adequate sex education in all their public schools and guess what?

The U.S teen pregnancy rates and abortion rates are MUCH HIGHER than Europe's, do you think this is all coincidental?

You want to live in a world that doesn't exists....teens will always want to have sex.....do you know why?

Because humans have an irresistible urge once they get to puberty and telling them DON'T DO THIS or THAT until you're married is a stupid idea.....INSANELY STUPID!

It's much more effective to tell them that if they must have sex, please use a condom or other contraceptives......you should really have sex until you are ready, maybe after you finish your education and you're a proper adult.

First off I think Americas high teen pregnancy rate has more to do with the glamorization of sex than the fact we dont teach sex ed as much as other countries... Second and I have said this many times, I want to be the one to talk to my son about responsible sex not a teacher in a room at school with 40 other kids giggling about it
