While your point about the amount of energy needed to produce meat was spot on, I have 2 issues. First, you are comparing a human to animals that have been genetically modify through selective breeding. Those animals were meant to be eaten. They would not survive without humans. Second, rodents live in any rottening material be it plant or animals based. Ever hear the Black Plague. I believe your arguments are slightly off base here.

Even if those animals were breeded for such purposes what is the point? Those animals are still living a misreable existance and there are an abundance of no flesh foods that could feed the entire planet.

There is some moral ambiguity here. A whale is more important then a cow. Humans were mean to eat protein. Being a vegan is only possible in the developed world. I just think you are approaching the argument slightly off-based.

Which countries would these be? India, Pakistan, China do not count as 3rd world now. They are developing. In fact, meat consumption is increasing in these countries. Your best argument is the energy waste part.

I haven't read a word of this thread, so I don't know how or whether it has taken a course other than the topic, but I find it interesting that we get more pages out of this thread than most that discuss much more important issues.
