I get collecting. I get hunting. I get target shooting. What I don't get is shutting yourself off to a term as vague as "gun control". Not talking you per se, but yeah.

Why shouldn't this gun be available? Because it's automatic?
There isn't a purpose for that gun that you're requesting. But why should it be made illegal? Making the gun illegal only makes it illegal to the people that follow the laws anyway. Why should they be in a sense punished?
Making this gun illegal doesn't remove the gun from the population nor from the criminals that would use it for harm.

No, but it does give them harsher sentences.

Nobody needs a ton of harmful things in this country, that doesn't mean that they should be deemed illegal.
Where does personal responsibility come into play in these discussions?

Which can be adjusted without adjusting the control laws.

This is a little off the subject but food for thought. It is great to do fire drills in schools but how many schools burn down in a year. Now with our messed up society do you think it is time to teach and run drills for these kinds of senseless attacks.Try to get adults and children to find safety spots in case of an animal like this gets loose.

I'm sure they do like to use the same weapons as in the military... and that is sort of my point in a nutshell. IMO They shouldn't have access to them stateside. We draw a line at grenades, tanks, bazookas, etc.
Why are those not ok, but an AR-15 is ok?
I don't understand the distinction. Please feel free to message me here about my electronic bay & COMC listings

I can't speak for all schools in the country, but we do lockdown drills (I am a high school teacher). In essence, in the event of a crisis the principal makes an announcement over the intercom...code red, blue, green, yellow or orange depending on the type of ememrgency (tornado, chemical spill, school safety, etc.). In this case, the call out would be a code red. All teachers immediately check outside of their room and grab any students that are closeby and bring them into the room, lock the doors (they are lockable from the inside), turn off the lights and instruct the students to remain quiet until the all-clear call is given.

I just had one simple question for those who want to make this about the need for more gun control/need to argue whether or not a certain type of gun is needed by citizens, etc.
If Adam Lanza had killed his mother in a manner other than shooting her, stolen her car and as the children played on the playground driven the car through the chain link fence and across the playground killing 26 people, would you advocate laws that make it harder to buy a car? Would you support laws that restrict how fast a car can go, how much it can weigh and how powerful it is in hopes that if it happened again the car wouldn't be able to crash through the fence?

Just finished reading the thread. Couple of thoughts:
- The first from Tom Walters a CTV journalist up here. He said, "Once again, in a country where guns are a right and health care is not, lives were lost to someone sick and well-armed."
- The culture of guns in the US is the PROBLEM.
- How many defenders of gun liberties are also defenders of drug laws? Why is that? If cocaine is banned because it can be dangerous, why aren't automatic weapons, excessively sized clips, and gun show exceptions banned too?
- Anyone notice that all these mass shootings are not committed by criminals?
- Can anyone say this kid would have taken the initiative to get his own guns if his mother didn't happen to legally have 3 weapons in her home?
- Morgan Freeman is wrong when he states that publicity contributes to these events.
- the "sane" comment. Once again, reading comprehension escapes the same people over and over.
- What role do the video games have in promoting the culture of gun violence in the US? Am I imagining the correlation between the recent frequency of these tragedies and the popularity of these games?
- Why is it that the NRA and the gun lobby are completely against any kind of gun laws? Is there a single law they endorse?
- Let's face it. In the US, the gun lobby & NRA are addicted to the blood money, the public is addicted to their false sense of freedom, and everyone else has to suffer the consequences.
