    International Rate increase for USPS

Hey everyone, I posted this on a few sites and wanted to get some feedback from here. If you haven't heard the USPS has proposed a rate increase to go into effect Jan. 27th. As for International the rate increase is HUGH. Right now a 1oz bubble mailer shipping to Canada cost $3.00. When the postal increase goes into effect that same 1oz package will now cost $6.55, That's a price increase of over 110%. I think this will have a huge effect on our hobby as I believe it will kill a bunch of Ebay sales and trades. I know this will hurt me as I believe that someone Canada isn't wanting to pay almost $7 for shipping.

I would love to get feedback from both sides of the border.

Wow, now some of those ridiculous $5 shipping charges will turn into $10 shipping charges. What is the proposed increase for tracked, insured, and signature confirmation packages?

It will make me think twice about mid-end purchases but will kill my small quantity low-end purchases completely from the US.

Any link to the web site page that show the new rates? That will really hurt us seller and trader since in hockey, at least 2/3 of collectors come from Canada. I don't understand how they can make such big increase. Why would their cost go that high or are they looking to simply make more profit???

As for Canada Post, for sending regular bubble mailer, no tracking to USA, it will see a 5% increase of 10 cents and will cost as January 14, 2013 only 2.20$. Domestic increase by 5 cents only.

Huh? You should have been buying off of me. The most I ever charged for 1-3 cards to Sweden was $3.50. Now I ship for free and will continue to do so. Prepare yourselves for the next generations of American sellers that don't know the Hockey hobby, and will again NOT SHIP outside the USA.

There is an excel form you can download here ^

You have to look under the tab FCPIS Retail. There is a little discount on FCPIS Commecrcial but not enough to change shipping prices.

That COMC Canadian site can't come soon enough.

To be honest, I always try to buy from Canadian sellers because the package gets here quicker. The price difference usually wasn't that much before on bubble mailers but now I don't see myself getting stuff from there at all unless it's a sportslot lot.

This is a baffling decision b the USPS because they need to be run like a business that makes $. They won't be making $ is they increase it to this amount and the amount of people ordering US stuff internationally dwindles by quite a bit for the near future at least. If a business suddenly gets more business then it increases it's price by a bit to better cover expenses and more profit, it doesn't increase it so much so that it'll lose its customers.

With an 83.4% International Postal Increase on January 22nd of 2012, now followed by an additional 100% International increase, the USPS will in effect shut down International Commerce as we know it.

If you thought that the unemployment situation was bad now, just wait until this takes effect. People have always been able to sell things to help get by....... now that ability will be seriously altered, perhaps beyond repair.

Make no mistake, the middle to lower income category has always depended on this ability, and since 1998 via eBay and other e-commerce retail and semi-retail sites, the category and ability to sell Worldwide has grown exponentially.

This growth will be all in vain and out a huge strain on those who have taken the choice to make their living by running a business that depends on International sales.

Now if the USPS also decides to add an additional 100% increase on domestic shipping, which saw a 60% increase as well last January of 2012, then they will in effect shut down small business internet commerce as we know it.

    way to go, USPS!

because clearly the best way to try to salvage any chance of staying in business is to drive away all your customers!
