I'm not a fan of nanny statism. You need to pick your battles. Guns and lawn darts should not even be in the same discussion.

Firearms are protected in the Constitution because they are a defensive weapon. When an intruder is concerned that I may have a lawn dart to defend my family, then I'll start giving it the same level of deference.

But why is it a defensive weapon?

Because it is assumed the intruder has a gun as an offensive weapon, as protected under the constitution.

What I take away from your chart is that gun violence here in the U.S. 'isn't as a bad as' places like Zimbabwe and Brazil. That's NOT REASSURING.
The greatest country in the world shouldn't readily accept the slaughter of her citizens so easily.
I am also horrified, repeat HORRIFIED, by your choice of reading materials. I hadn't heard of that blog so clicked on the link, this is the first line of the most recent post by the author:

"If setting up and suiciding a drugged-up patsy to take the fall for shooting up a suburban school of sweet, innocent, white elementary schoolchildren..."

The disgusting implication there is that this was staged as some kind of conspiracy to create more gun control laws. If you believe garbage like that keep it to yourself and in fact don't leave your underground bunker because the world is a scary scary place for you.
