This is the P&R forum, please tie all threads into something to do with politics or religion. That does not mean it has to be a politician or a particular religion, just something.

This should be easy to do and is the reason our forum exists.

Start a thread about the police, tie it into civil rights or something.

Start a thread about science, tie it into religion.

It is easy to do.

I personally expect many of the threads to get off topic, when the topic is P&R related, it will happen most of the time, I have no issue with that.

If you guys want me to shut down all the threads I can, it is easier for us to tie them into the P&R area, that is all I am asking.

It never ceases to amaze me how otherwise perfectly smart people will avoid the easier, very obvious solution and instead go for the more difficult and ultimately doomed one.

wickabee, why do you think this will be an issue, should be easy to do and allow for better debate.

I don't have an issue with what direction the thread takes (as long as we stick to SFC rules) just would like the initial thread to point somewhere.

Because not everything that gets discussed here is related to either, but affects every one of us on the same level. The fact is this isn't a politics and religion forum outside of title and I don't think anyone really wants it to be. This forum has, completely organically, become a forum to discuss all levels and manner of society.

At the very least, I don't see how giving less possible ground for commonality makes for good, honest discussion and doesn't stifle discussion instead of encouraging it. Especially when the only problem we had in the first place was one guy who hasn't been around here since. I'm all for organization, but there's a limit.

So if I post a thread do I have to write a statement telling everyone how this is tied to P&R?

Why be tied to the title that was created years ago? Like wick said, the forum has morphed into much more than just P&R so why not adjust the title if people have issues with topics not being directly tied to P or R. THere seems to be plenty of users who want the forum expanded rather than policed. I'm failing to see the desire or need to spend time policing topics in this forum outside of links containing adult content or other typical SCF violations.

It happens constantly on forums everywhere. Things get to a point where someone, usually a lone complainer, starts getting threads shut down because the conversations within have naturally progressed to something else. Posts get deleted, people are told to stay "on topic" and the thread suddenly gets ignored.
I don't see how doing it on a larger scale is different.

For example, if I want to talk about mental health I have to ignore the side I would want to talk about, social stigma, and instead have to turn it into another "us v them" about Obamacare.

I don't mind the threads morphing, I never have.

I am just trying to stick by the rules the SCF has made, I did not make them, I just try to enforce them.

I post on here just as much as any of you, and I am trying to save our forum area not destroy it.

what is the big deal asking the OP to tie it into politics or religion? all I am asking for is a single sentence., such as;

Big Bang Theory = does it disprove all religion?

cops beat woman = was this civil rights violation spurred by racism?

it is easy, I am not trying to change, destroy, or control, just trying to get things organized and to meet SCF guidelines and policies so we can have our forum.

I don't hover around here just to give you guys a hard time, I have your back in more ways than you know, I just need some cooperation and help. I want this to move forward, not backwards, I don't want threads closed.

I am not in the position to change the forum name or content, perhaps one day I will be, but not right now.

I am not here to infringe on your rights, just trying to make things better for us.
