    Interesting question

    Duane bought this up in another thread and I say why not make it into it's own thread. This question is mainly geared to people who are in favor of abortion but like always anyone with an opinion is welcome to chime in. The question is would you be ok with abortion being outlawed except for cases or sexual abuse/incest/a medical need in exchange for legalized gay marriage all throughout the United sStates.

    No, I wouldn't.

    I once proposed that maybe we could outlaw SOME abortion and have gay marriage 100% legal at the federal level and treat it exactly like straight marriage but even then I don't see it fair.

    A women has a right to do whatever she pleases with her body.

    MY feelings about this issue are irrelevant to her rights.

    Personally I would never want my gf or wife to get an abortion, but if she wanted to, I should not have the right to stop her....ultimately that is her choice.

    Gay marriage WILL become legal in the U.S sooner or later.....the SCOTUS decision is coming up soon and I believe DOMA will be struct down which will mean that all gay marriages in states which allow them (and there's about 12 states that allow it now) will be treated exactly like straight marriage.

    And when the other bigoted states realize that the end of the world did NOT occur when gays get all the benefits of straights, slowly but surely they will come around.

    The one sad thing is why do we always have to trade one thing for another.

    This is it. Anyone willing to do this is willing to trade a right for a wrong in any case.

    That said, I would be okay outlawing most abortion in trade for real effort and actual results in making deadbeat fathers responsible for their actions. That actually seems relevant to abortion in some way.

    Since no one can seem to legislate effort, or even put effort into legislation, this won't happen.

    You're right though, trading off laws by party is a terrible way of dealing with things. Why isn't anyone willing to stick to one issue at a time? While we're at it, why is it possible to add irrelevant legislation to a bill?

    not really, if she tries to hurt herself or kill herself, she will face consequences. If she sells her body for sex, it is illegal.

    We never weren't. You get strange ideas.

    And shrew, maybe it's different in the US or state by state, but I know for certain (and thought it wasthe same in the US) that selling sex is perfectly legal. The solicitation on the other hand is not.

    So basically, they're allowed to sell, but not allowed to set a price.

    well I am no prostitution expert, I do know that in over 99% of the US it is illegal, but I am unsure what the exact details are and now you have me curious.

    ok I looked;

    Ohio law says this;

    [QUOTE]
    § 2907.21: Compelling prostitution
    (A) No person shall knowingly do any of the following:
    (1) Compel another to engage in sexual activity for hire;[QUOTE]

    http://prostitution.procon.org/view....resourceID=756

    so I am still unsure about the fact a price has to be set, I know on tv it seems that way.

    but there are no LAWS that state that she can't. There are religiously motivated suggestions, but no laws on the books stating that suicide or self-mutilation is illegal. Like, you can't be arrested for cutting yourself, or throwing yourself down a flight of stairs. SHOULD you do that? No. But it isn't illegal

    The prostitution thing is an interesting point though...
