Wow....absolute MIND BLOWN. I know every state's laws are different, but in California 10-20-LIFE (they may have something like it in Florida) means that her sentence was justified based on the law.
Again, not sure if FL has this kind of law, but i know a lot of states do.
Still, has the judge not heard of Special Circumstances? If the woman was firing shots at someone simply because she was mad at them, then whatever, put her away. I would have not convicted her, especially since the key sentence, "...she was defending herself against her allegedly abusive husband when she fired warning shots inside her home in August 2010. She told police it was to escape a brutal beating by her husband, against whom she had already taken out a protective order."
Instant acquittal and charges pressed on the husband IMO.

According to the judge, the mandatory minimum laws in Florida regarding attempted murder do not allow for extenuating circumstances, thereby tying his hands on the issue. Personally I think she should have received X years per shot fired in the house, to a max of, say, five, but that's for the unconsidered danger of her actions. I wouldn't have convicted her of murder but, being the prosecutor I wouldn't have charged her with that. Unless the most insane place in North America doesn't have laws against firing in populated areas.

sad isnt it.
Being in an abusive relationship before, I can tell you this: If she was being physically beaten and mentally abused to the point where she HAD TO DRAW A GUN. it is NOT her fault.
Not invoking a feminist card here or anything, but just look at the situation. She obviously didn't pull the gun out and unload a clip into the guy's chest. She fired warning shots AWAY from him as to not cause harm, but close enough to tell him to get the hell away from her.
And now I'm upset and emotional.

All I'm going to say is her actions could have killed someone else, had a bullet hit someone. Attempted murder though, it was not.

Gun wouldn't have been needed at all if she wasn't constantly getting beat after having a restraining order and Popo trash ignoring her please to them.
Just saying, shouldn't the abusive husband be charged also?
I know you guys dont get it, but if she had to get a gun to ward a man off, SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT BEFOREHAND

I think no charges should have been filed, the worse case scenario would have been reckless endangerment. I personally wish the guy would have been shot if he did beat her. Nobody has the rights to touch anyone else unless in self defense. Once it turns physical all the rules change. I hate abuse!

in the scenario presented the guy didn't seem to be any any danger. rushing at someone isn't an action with needs to be defended with deadly force. Maybe if the person had a weapon, but even if a guy plans to physically attack another that doesn't always give him the right to shoot.
