12-13 The Cup ???
I might be late to the discussion, but does anyone know if there's going to be a 12-13 UD The Cup Hockey release? I thought I had originally heard August, but haven't seen any pop up on eBay..

It wouldn't make much sense at this point. Its September and we haven't seen a pre-order... which means it wouldn't be out till mid October if they announced it. With all the hype about this "double rookie class" I doubt they'd want to take attention away with a Cup release.

Normally they can make rookie of player that played the year before and did not see RC produce or in the current year that they played at least one match. Now last year the rookie not produced that did play in 2011-12 and did not see a card Produce in product from 2011-12 were eligible to be rookie in 2012-13 but player that became eligible because they played their first match in 2012-13, the NHL NHPLA and manaufacturer decided since many product would not be produced and because many product were already out that these player would become eligible to be rookie only in the 2013-14 product. Thus the double rookie crop this year.

It wouldn't surprise me either way.
UD, no doubt, has already made a lot of cards to go into a release of The Cup for 2012-13. There is probably nothing that stops them from just hanging onto those cards, and using them in 2013-14 instead (other than the scrub rookies - becuase if they go into a 13-14 release, they would no longer be rookie cards).
On one hand, I can't see Upper Deck wanting to bail on their highest end release of the year. On the other, I can't see how they could release it.... and not expect it to be a total disaster. If it had hit shelves before the 2013-14 stuff started to come out, they'd be okay, but that didn't happen.
It's September now. I would guess that if no info come out by the end of the month, it's probably not going to happen. At this point - I would expect if does get released, it will be around the same time as 13-14 UD Series 1 (right in time for the Fall Expo in Toronto)

I still say if they're smart they do the following:
1) Scrap 12/13 The Cup altogether
2) Create a 13/14 The Cup Series A with rookies who played their first game in 12/13 (Yakupov, Huberdeau, etc) - release this ASAP
3) Create a 13/14 The Cup Series B with rookies who play their first game in the 13/14 season (Mackinnon etc) - release this in August/Sept 2014
4) Collect all our underpants
5) ???
6) Profit

Hasn't this rather nondescript Issue, "The Cup" ran it's course? It's a winner in the sense of marketing for Upper Deck, and a convincing reminder of how strong marketing is, and really how much is too much for people to pay.
Just look at the 2000-01 Vanguard Set, and tell me where any "The Cup" card even comes close. I could list other 20.00 Boxes all day long that are nicer in format and in base card strength, but that would be to digress.
Upper Deck says jump, and new collectors say "How High?"

You mean to say that The Cup ISN'T the reason to get up and check ebay in the morning? That there is an entire world of cards outside of that single overpriced release?
But sir, without the Cup for $400+ a tin, where could I possibly pull a Beautiful Patrick Roy Autographed Patch /25 that I can turn around and sell for less than $200 on ebay and not even recoup the cost of my tin? Oh ya, I guess I could pull that same card from a $6 pack of SPA and then sell it for the same amount, lol.
Honestly.
Nicely put.
There are much nicer looking sets than the cup.
Just because it costs $400+ a tin doesn't make it the best. Even if I was going to spend that kind of coin on something, Superlative KILLS it hands down.
I'll take 5 boxes of Black Diamond over a tin of the Cup any day (and if I sold it all I would probably do about as well or better)

I won a Cup Quad Jersey /10 a couple nights ago for $27, and missed out on triple jersey /25 a couple weeks ago (I forgot about it) that sold for $6.25.......
Granted, they were both Canucks cards, but still.........you gotta figure a quad jersey /10 would be the tin hit, no? I have no idea myself.
To each their own tho. I have the vintage-player cards from 91/92 Pro-Set taking up binder space :D

Doesn't shock me, lol.
For the record - digging out my old Pro Set, bindering it up, and then doing 'Master Sets' with Errors (though not the crazy variants - just the ERR/ COR versions), and the weirdo inserts / promos they did...... it's on my list of things to do.
