My opinion: Anyone willing to pay $400+ for a tin of The Cup deserves what they get. Anyone willing to overpay for a cup card deserves what they get. Upper Deck sells them for that price because people buy them at that price. Here's a news flash: Upper Deck does not care about you. They care about your money.

another opinion: Superlative (or ITG or BAP or any set that doesn't have rights to show logos) is a second rate product. If the set doesnt have the rights to the logos, its just not appealing to me.

I think like in anything the product that cost the most will always be attractive to those with a lot of money to spend. Does not mean they make the best cards. But it does mean that the rookie that will book the most will most certainly come from the Cup. So not too many will or can afford to buy it but it does fill in a market nice. In all brand I see member complaining that they do not recup their money. Mainly this is true with low middle and high end product, some more then others. So hate ITG product and some love it. To me if I can put my hand on a nice 3 color The cup Carey Price patch, then it make my day no matter what. Do I buy tin, no, do I buy cards, yes. But I think Prime and dominion are slowly building up the competition. Love the rookie /99 from dominion that I pulled in my break and that I traded for a 3 color The cup Honorable Numbers Carey Price auto patch. So in a way all product find their nice of collectors for all kind of reason. No cup this year would mean no Chris kreider RC and same for all last year rookie. I am sure player collector would miss them and for the collector collecting the cup, they would miss it.

My guess is that in the past years it came out in September and probably will come out late again this year.

Appears I sparked quite a debate by simply asking if The Cup would be released this year :)

Upper Deck has gotten only $12.00 of my money since 2003-04. They won't ever get another penny, as they have failed me as purveyor of goods.

And we haven't stopped hearing about it since then.

IMO it would make no sense to have a 12-13 release of the Cup. It would be more worthwhile to salvage what they could from it (assuming they had already started producing some cards prior to the lockout) and release it as extras in 13-14 The Cup. If they had produced some RC's for the set from 12-13, I guess just destroy them (no!!!!! no JT Brown Cup RC's for his many collectors!!! said nobody ever)

If UD is smart (debatable) they would do the same as Prime did this season and release The Cup in 13-14 as a 13-14 product and include a mini pack of 12-13 The Cup cards. Thats assuming UD has already made some 12-13 cards, if they haven't made any yet they should keep it that way and not even bother with a 12-13 release.

That's not at all what Prime did. Prime is a 12-13 product that features the same rookies as you see in the rest of the 12-13 products. There are no RC's of players that debuted in the lockout-shortened 2013 season as they're part of the Double Rookie Class for 2013-14 products.

What Prime *did* do is make a product that heavily emphasizes the veteran content and game-worn memorabilia aspect of the product. Yes there are the RC's in there but they're mostly an afterthought relative to the Prime Colors, Prime Laces, etc.

please never eeever speak of this jt brown again. i'm positive they double printed his rookie cards in all 12-13 products, even the serial numbered ones.

for a nano second you think you've pulled a leaf, then quickly realize it's a tampa guy. your eyes scan for a name..J.T BROWN.&$&*`$#%[*^^*%$#^&^#@!$%##
