Anyone have anything serious? Like an actual list of non essential services, not just this bunk I'm getting here?

Not sure why our government is doing anything that is non essential.

i hope the Government gets shut down.. And you know what? It would be everyone's fault in Washington.
Maybe then people will wake up and start working together.
Dems don't want to modify this train wreck of the bill, and the Republicans won't pass a bill to fund the Government by itself.
Obama will work with Iran and Putin but he won't even work with Republicans..
Good for Republicans for taking this hard stand.
Shut this mess down.

Here are a few.
- National parks, museums and monuments are closed.
- Passport/visa offices are closed.
- Since Washington D.C. is not a state it is funded via Federal dollars, so all municipal activities are halted.
- Federal bankruptcy cases are not heard.
- Recruitment of Federal law enforcement is halted although currently employed Fed law enforcement staff are not laid off or limited.
- SEC audits would be halted (this is speculated).
- Some cyber-security personnel would be placed on furlough.
- Civilian personnel on military bases would be placed on furlough.
And the two biggies, in my opinion.
- CDC would stop monitoring and reporting.
- Veteran services would be halted.
Other than that, the government continues chugging along. Congress and Senate still get paid, border patrol continues, Fed law enforcement continues, welfare checks keep coming, the military remains in full force...
EDIT: Just found this article on MSNBC. It does a good job of explaining most of what will happen. Looks like the veterans services I was worried about would not be suspended after all http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...look-like?liteLast edited by duane1969; 09-30-2013 at 11:38 AM.

I think they need to suspend pay on the congressmen until they strike a deal.

I agree, but that is prevented by Federal law. So they would have to create a bill, vote on it and pass it to suspend their own pay, and we all know they will not be volunteering to work for free.

I agree with you. I love watching a car wreck just as much as the next guy. Bring it on.

Not surprisingly, the Senate killed the bill to fund the government.
