[QUOTE=centrehice;13120637]In regards to Primeau, what time of day do you list his cards? I have not sold a Primeau card in 2 years, I have about 90 of them, and some scarce parallels. I cannot give away his OPC Premier Rookie or just about anything else.

I may just be listing at the wrong time.[/QUOTE

Flyers fans love the guy. Wings fans, not so much.

Lindros stuff has been getting harder to move, I think some of the big Lindros collectors are backing off with the glut of his stuff coming out lately on the market. All of the big E's stuff was pretty limited for a while there but now its EVERYWHERE. So instead of a bidding war collectors are just waiting their turn to pick it up or just being more discerning on what they pickup.

But yeah your list is pretty bang on. There will always be the odd card of one of those players going for more than normal but for the most part they dont sell or trade well.

The biggest two I agree with have to be Chelios who was an all star HOF defenceman has no hobby love. The other BLOWS MY MIND

    Marcel Dionne

1771 5th in all time points
731 4th in all time goals
1040 9th in all time assists

HE has over 700 frackin career goals and was only the 2nd player to do it, behind Phil Esposito. But limited cards of him are unwanted for trade and sell horribly unless they are part of a highly collected set (limited logos and the like
    ).

Elias has a sizable collector base. Not huge in NA but in terms of Devils cards he's second behind only Brodeur. I've gotten into some bid wars with Czech bidders

I'd remove Tkachuk and Brind'amour from the list. Both players have some very dedicated collectors that pay very well. Brind'amours tougher parallels can be moved for big $....sold a BD Gold /10 and a HG /10 for over $125 each at auction.

Read my initial post. I basically stated that anyone with a 1/1 , Ser, #/10, or Ser #/25 sells, even bums. I am talking about Press Proof Golds, Studio Golds, Dynagon, Revolution, Omega, and Paramount Ice Blues etc, that do not have a structured serial number.

If Montreal had drafted him instead of Lafleur, it would be a very different story.

I didn't just mean those cards...those were just a couple examples of the absurd sales. Either player has been a relatively easy sell (compared to much bigger names) over the years for me regardless of what the card is.

Luc Robitaille stuff is cheap for the stats he got too.

I have always thought about a Hobby Wilderness Collector's List. Here's who I have at the top, and whomever you want to add who's collecting activity is Grim at best. This list is in Random Order. Many are first rounders, a couple first overall.

Now many are going to dispute my list, but I am not talking about 1/1 cards here, or #/10 or #/25. I am talking about their non-acceptance in the Hobby, especially the cards produced while they were Active, and many scarce cards out there, that simply do not move in general, in trade, sale or even given away.

    Keith Tkachuk
    Chris Pronger
    Chris Chelios
    Keith Primeau
    Owen Nolan
    Rod Brind'amour
    Ed Jovanovski
    Roman Hamrlik
    Chris Philips
    Joe Thornton
    John LeClair
    Adam Graves
    Doug Weight
    Jean Ratelle
    Vic Hadfield
    Rod Gilbert
Reggie Leach - nothing old OPC or Topps even gets a nod.

Recently I have also noticed that even these players cards are getting very hard to move:
    Phil Esposito
    Johnny Bucyk
    Marcel Dionne
    Ron Francis
    Eric Lindros
    Brendan Shanahan
    Curtis Joseph
Pierre Turgeon - if not for Quebec residents, his cards would be on par with Patrik Stefan

Feel free to add your own.

    ...

I see two things with the guys on your list.

    1) Some of them just don't appear in sets enough to stay hobby relevant or become hobby relevant. Chelios is a good example, to me. I've been looking for a nice hard-signed Chelios auto in a Wings jersey for a while. Beckett doesn't list one which is non-SP'd or numbered greater than 25 (and 2/3rds of the SPs are BAP autos). Chelios was a great defenseman, but it's not worth trying to 'start' a collection when most of the nice stuff is already numbered to 25 or less. Vic Hadfield is another one. Hadfield has less than 50 cards produced which are non-ITG and nothing non-ITG since 04-05. I'm an ITG fan, but a lot of guys aren't and they consider their collections 'complete' without including non-licensed cards (of much more popular players than Hadfield).

    2) Some of them appear in EVERYTHING and the market is ultra-saturated. Reggie Leach has close to 5x more cards post-retirement than he had as a player. He's not in the HHOF yet shows up everywhere with autos - 10 last year alone. Your second list has some even bigger super-saturators. Dionne, Bucyk, and recently Lindros have all been severely over-produced. Dionne has 111 cards (32 autos) in 2011-12 alone, Bucyk had 95 (30 autos) that year, and Lindros eclipsed them both with 313 cards (83 autos). Dionne retired in 89 (and HHOF in 92), Chief retired in 78 (HHOF in 81), and Lidros hung it up in 2007. I'm not arguing that they aren't great players or worthy of hobby love, but most 'new' collectors have no connection whatsoever to them and 1 HHOF auto is more than enough for a lot of guys.

You can add a lot of names to the list of guys whose Topps/OPC cards aren't 'wanted' from their playing days in the 1970s and 80s. A lot of those cards are already in collections, too. Not a lot of need for 6 extra '75 Reggie Leach cards, is there? And with a few posts on most of the boards, you can add those cards (base) to a 'new' player collection without spending much, if anything (once you find them).

Our hobby prefers the cream-of-the-crop superstars and the flavor-of-the-day rookies. Over production and under production turns HHOFers into commons and popular players into forgotten heroes.

Only comment I'll make is on Dougie Weight. One of my all time favs, and don't pick up somecards of his here and there. By no means do I look for everthing, but if you're sitting on a really nice patch or auto or cool looking 90s stuff.... Drop me a line.
