Red Wings AGAIN pay too much for a median player. Legwand cost them Partick Eaves, a 3rd rounder, and a Prospect. Eaves and a Prospect was all I would have offered.

Red Wings 4 years in a row now, on the road to nowhere.

I still need to know the prospect before I can really disagree wtih this.... but in principle, I think you're wrong:

Legwand is better than Eaves, so it's an upgrade. Did they get a top line impact player? No, maybe not... but the got a good player, way better than what they had. Upgraded their roster.

A 3rd round pick isn't nearly as valuable as we like to pretend it is. The chances that Nashville will draft a player that turns into anything is slim.

The prospect, maybe it's somone decent... who knows? Maybe it isn't. If it's the 7th best prospect in Detroit's system... then Nashville got a new farm hand.

I just don't like underachievers, and Legwand has always been this. He is Dan Cleary with hands. Eaves has always been a bit of an overachiever on the Red Wings, and a great fore-checker.

Yes, it all depends on who else they eventually send. 1/4 of the Red Wings roster in the hospital, so I suppose Legwand fills a spot with a body.

I'm BLOWN AWAY that Bergevin landed Vanek. Especially without giving up a roster player. Collberg could be good, but Vanek is proven talent and with Price backing the Habs, they grew a little more dangerous. And the second pick heading to NYI is apparently conditional... even better!

Great job by Bergevin. Didn't think he could close that.

Dumb move by the Habs. No chance at the Cup this year, so what is the point?

The point is to ice a team that can score more goals in front of a goalie who's now a proven winner.

Everybody wants to crap on the Habs but they're hanging atop the Eastern Conference and just found a way to strengthen a weakness (Goals For).

Yeah, and I mean - I don't want to discount that fact that the prospect could turn into something. Between Detroit's track record in drafting late round gems.... and Nasvhille ability to turn 2nd & 3rd round picks into a quality defenceman: Maybe they just traded the next editions of Ryan Suter & Pavel Datsyuk? Probably not, but could have.

Fair comment about Legwand being an underachiever though..... though I will also point out that he waived a NTC to go to Detroit, so maybe this is the time when he finally says "enough, I want to play for a good team" and does something :)

I don't think so: the 2nd rounder goes no matter what. There's a conditional 5th going to the Habs with Vanek (at least that's the last I read about it). If Montreal misses the playoffs, Islanders give them an extra pick.

Price definitely isn't a proven winner yet. He did a good job backing Team Canada, but they could have played Mike Smith and gotten the same result.

Vanek is walking at the end of the season, that's a given. Yes, they just got more dangerous up front, but we can only expect about 8-10 goals from Vanek and about the same number of assists while he's in a Habs uniform. Are you saying that's worth Collberg and a conditional second?

No tire pumping after all. Tim Thomas to Dallas.

    Boston visits Florida on Sunday.
This game is scheduled as Tim Thomas bobblehead night.
    Hilarity ensues.

Also, Shero blaming the lack of a deal for Kesler on the Canucks' management tells me he knows his deal was just short of "fair".

That said, fire Gillis now and get a new guy in before the draft.

Vanek is on record saying he might or might not sign in Montreal. Has made no decision. If they can sign him without giving up the bank, this will be a major win.

I don't get it....Anyone know what the attraction of the Ranger's and only the Rangers is to St.Louis??

Edit: just saw him on TSN, he mentioned family? maybe he has some in NY....But still, 13 years in T-Bay and playing with Stamkos and a bunch of young talented speedsters on the rise, great goaltending....

Not a good day for Stamkos....

Of course he said that, he'd be stupid to get traded and immediately say that he has no desire to stay in that market....wouldnt be a very good way to win over the team and fans....In other words he's walking. The Isles offered him upwards of $50M over 7 years and he turned it down. He's publicly said that he wants to test the free agent market, and he's expressed interest in going to Minny. Take that for what it's worth, but I think there is NO chance he is in a Habs uniform at the start of next season.
