Inspired by habs
this thread was inspired by a habs post.
in your opinion, what crimes should carry a minimum of the death penalty.
I realize that each crime can vary and even people can be falsely accused and sentenced, so we will assume in a perfect judicial system, what the crimes would be.
child molestation
kidnapping
child porn
rape
murder, except in self defense
attempted murder, except in self defense
crimes involving a weapon (threat of death should be considered attempted murder)
all I got for now, but I am sure I will come up with some more.
I also think we should have the cheapest and easiest form of execution and it be public.
I also believe that anyone that works anywhere in the legal system, lawyer, police, judge, politician, should get double the punishment for any crime, even traffic violations. (obviously the death sentence wouldn't be doubled)

I honestly don't believe in the death penalty.
Yes, humans are capable of some very horrific things, but I just can't agree with executing someone in the name of "justice".

If life sentences were actually life sentences I would have no problem with doing away with the death penalty. Unfortunately, there are too many cases of convicted killers, rapists, drunk drivers, etc. killing again after their release.

the death penalty is not about justice or revenge, but protecting society from those who cannot be trusted to follow simple moral laws. it is a mere act of self defense and it increases the chance of survival for those that do follow some form of moral code.
the issue I have with a life sentence is they are still part of society, they are commiting crimes in prison, they can escape, and we are paying for them to live.

Premeditated Murder - If you plan and carry out someone else's death then you have no right to live in any manner.
Rape - You destroy another person's life, humiliate them, psychologically injury them and change their life forever.
Child Molestation - See my thoughts on rape.
Murder with prejudice - If you don't plan it, but kill someone in some extremely violent or gruesome manner.
Mass murder - Premeditated or not.
Those are the ones I think deserve the death penalty with a fast track to the electric chair. I also support public executions. There is no greater a deterrent than watching someone die for something you are about to do or are planning on doing.
