Garage Sale Hunting! Tips, Hints and Advice

So my parents had a garage sale this weekend, I added a couple of things and set up some cards and was rewarded $75 for my troubles. Sold a few cards, got rid of some random hockey related stuff and a chair I always hated. Not a bad day, but the night before as I had been going through the last of my crap looking for stuff to add to the sale, I found my old coins. I found a couple Canadian quarters from the 1930s that together look to be worth about $15. An 1892 American Quarter that has seen better days, but is in fairly decent shape.

This is where I hope I can find someone who is into coins as the people of this site are into sports cards. Along with the 1892 was another old coin. I got these together after my great-grandfather passed. The other coin in question I always really liked. It appeared to be gold, though I was never certain, was older than the 1892 quarter, marked at 1882, and appeared to be British. I always put it with my other coins, pennies from the year I was born, change from trips, etc. And never really thought about it.

When I came across it the other night, I decided to do some research and was pleasantly surprised at what I found about it, but I'm kind of treading water due to overload of info and sort of want the "Explain it like I'm 5" version of exactly what I have, value, etc, etc.

My research has determined it is:

Australian Full Sovereign
1882
Young Victoria Obverse
St. George and the Dragon Reverse
Melbourne Mint
.22ct

I'm wondering if this is the exact description or if there may be more to it. Any help is appreciated. I can get pics up fairly quickly if needed. Condition is pretty good, though there's a bite mark that's always been there.

Two Walking Sticks/Canes Hand Made from Wood, - PICKED 2.50$ EACH - can someone tell me anything about these? rough estimate on what these could go for?

I was able to pickup a box of random baseball cards that had about 100-200 cards from the 60's. I haven't gone threw them yet as im working on all my other stuff

Where did you find the baseball cards ? I look at every garage sale and thrift store I go to but never find anything. Heck now adays I cant even find the giant box of 1988 Topps :D :D

Where did you find the baseball cards ? I look at every garage sale and thrift store I go to but never find anything. Heck now adays I cant even find the giant box of 1988 Topps :D :D

to be honest down here in the south its a hit or miss...
I have a few people who know who I am and when they clean out peoples attics and find stuff they will put it to the side for me
last year I had one of the best pickups off all time when I picked up over 5000 baseball and football cards from 1962 to 1975 and only paid 50 dollars for them

I hit a neighborhood yard sale this past Friday and Saturday and was very disappointed. Not much to see just junk literally.I am planning on my neighborhood yard sale next weekend hope to clear out my tonage of sports cards I have had.Put together great lots that have always sold well at the fleas.

bought this lot for $50



very happy to find this...teddy didn't work because when they tried it they put the batteries in backwards..got it home and had no problem
a whopping $5 for everything


and this is the best part
my buddy who cleans attics out text me and told me he has some more cards for me
the binder is filled with 1954 bowman cards
the box is any where from 54 to 74
paid 40 for it all

Very nice baseball card find Cowboy. I was only able to find a complete sticker set from the 1983 Topps football set.I am almost tempted to get the set graded for better value because they are in excellent shape.4 hours of yard saling and that was all I could muster
