Could it have faded in the BGS case? Such a nice card ruined by someone not taking care of it properly.

Must have. BGS graded it a "10" autograph so unless they were having it graded by a blind guy they would have to see this damage. The question is how could it have faded so quickly in the BGS case in such a short time period? To be fair in Sweet Spot baseball that year the material they used destroyed almost all of the autographs. It was so bad that they offered replacements before they lost their baseball license. You can find unopened boxes and open them and the autographs will basically be faded all away. They cheapened out with the baseball sweet spot material that year and they and collectors paid dearly for it. After that they used something else but that year is AWFUL for the autographs. If you have one that doesn't look faded you can consider yourself very lucky.
