I don't know what the point of this is, my definition of viability is the same from the medical dictionary...

Viability is when a fetus can survive outside the uterus.

This usually occurs in the 22-24 week period of pregnancy.

Well, I took some time and your advice to look it up. From what I can tell it is totally dependent on history, medicine, and the opinions of people. This is not an exhaustive but it is as accurate as I can find from several different sources. The synopsis is mine, I did not copy it or plagiarize it...I know there is someone out there bent on these details of minutiae.

    VIABILITY SYNOPSIS
    Early 1800s – at quickening (16-22 weeks)
    1930s – 28 weeks
    1950 - 33 weeks
    1955 - 31 weeks
    1960 - 30 weeks
    1965 - 29 weeks
    1970 - 28 weeks
    1975 - 27 weeks
    1980 - 27 weeks
    1985 - 26 weeks
    1990 - 25 weeks

    2000 < - 22 to 24 weeks
Today – Doctors required to do viability assessment as early as 19 weeks, varies by state and doctor

So this is totally subjective to the person, culture, and there place in history, and we can all count on it changing again...do you believe in anything absolute that doesn't change all the time?

Would you build a house without a foundation? Can a house really be a house without a foundation? All people become people at conception, you can't skip this part. Do you watch a movie from the beginning or just the last 5 minutes? When you went to college on the first day did they hand you a degree and say congratulations?

though I am personally opposed to abortion, on a societal level it is needed until other options are explored.
    but
my issue is that when people support abortion they use the fetus "is not a human" excuse. the only reason the fetus is not a human or nonviable is you killed it!!!!!

if you support abortion at least have a sound reason behind it.

You and others on here seem to NOT understand that one CAN have two opposing views on the same subject.

And once again, I will use the Cigarette analogy to prove how easy it is to have said opposing views on the same subject.

I do NOT support cigarettes.....in fact I HATE cigarettes, I think it is one of the worst inventions man ever made, it ONLY causes damage to the user and some studies show that it can also harm those directly and continuously exposed to the unfortunate souls who think it's a good idea to use a stupid thing such as a cigarette to their own health.

There isn't a single positive for cigarettes....not even one.

I can equivocally and genuinely say that I have a VERY negative opinion of cigarettes.

And yet....I do NOT want cigarettes banned, I do NOT want to force anyone's choice in whether or not they should smoke.

I am PRO-Choice when it comes to cigarettes.

However, I'm still ANTI-Cigarettes in general.

It's the EXACT same sentiments with abortion....I DO NOT LIKE ABORTION, never have I said I "support abortion" or I'm "Pro-abortion"....that's just SICK!

What kind of person gets a positive reaction when they hear a woman has decided to get an abortion? What type of person can say with a serious face that abortions are a inherently a "good thing"?

I don't know what type of person is this, but I am sure as hell not that person.

    I do not support abortion.

I support the CHOICE, the RIGHT for others to do as they please with their bodies, even if it's detrimental to them such as smoking literal "death sticks" such as cigarettes, and even if it's something I very much disapprove of such as abortion.

Don't you see, freedom is being able to support the choices that people do even if you don't agree with what they're doing.

You know very well how much I DESPISE religion with a passion....and yet, how many times have I said religion should be banned? How many times have I said that I should be able to force others NOT to join a religion?

    Never.

    really? I just listed two opposing views on abortion that I have;
though I am personally opposed to abortion, on a societal level it is needed until other options are explored.

having opposing views is not the issue, it is the reasoning behind them.

saying a fetus is not yet a human is poor and weak excuse, too many holes for it to be logical.

how about the real facts for the need of abortion, such as the amount of homeless children, abused children, and unwanted children that already exist?

I'm sad because Alex never answered my question. :(

Whatever happened to the woman that said she was going to end it all? Why is she so special? Oregon has had over 1000 of these cases in the last 10-15 years? Could my conspiracy theory be correct? Do the Libs consider gay marriage won and it's time to move onto the next big ticket item?? Uh-oh!

Skipping conception and still becoming human. I guess technically you could have said Adam and/or Eve and that would have been true but that is quite a different matter.

What do you think about my the other question, that would be fun to banter about.

Well, no one is skipping conception and still becomes human, Human biology just doesn't work that way.

But I think I've already explained my position the best way I could.

When it comes to abortion, we deem it as a "necessary evil" sort of thing.

A woman has dominion over her own body, and until the fetus is viable, that fetus doesn't have rights.

If that sounds harsh, maybe it is....but at this current moment with the current medical technology that we have.....I think it is logical and reasonable that abortions be legal and NOT considered murder or implicitly "wrong".
