    Base Cards

I was wondering what people do with their base from packs. I am moving in a week, and have like 9 boxes filled with base, as I always take the boxes home to open up. I don't really want to take them with me when I move, but I don't want to throw them out. I have contacted my local children's hospital to see if they would want them, but was told they don't take anything that is opened, it would have to be a brand new sealed box.

I tried the same thing with my double base cards and the hospitals. Same response.

I used to give them away on Halloween. I would put three cards in a penny sleeve, with a Sabres card in it, and hand them out with candy. It was too tedious and time consuming. Plus, the kids trick or treating dwindle each year.

Now, I take my empty card boxes, fill them with various base cards, and leave them outside of places I go, say a Toys R Us or thruway rest stop. I also put a sticky on them that says "Free" and have taken to putting old patch and signature cards at the bottom of the box. They are of no value, but if a kid gets handed a free box of cards with one of those in them, I thought they might find it exciting.

Been a while since I have done it, with the weather being bad and the fact I rarely stop at TRU anymore, my #1 drop off spot, but I figure they will end up in someone else's hands, hopefully a kids, or in the garbage. As long as they are out of my hands.

We accept donations at our booth each Spring and Fall at the Expo, team bag them, and give them to kids.

I've always liked the Halloween idea. I think it's a great way for all of us to get hockey cards into the hands of kids. They're always happy to receive them so I hope it translates into collectors over the course of time.

I will have to remember that, if I have any left when the Spring Expos roll around. Thanks!

I've dropped cards off with Frank (as he mentioned in his post) and other guys that do the same, give them to kids.

I use a lot for packaging too. Toss in a few base cards to reinforce the package. I've been going through the boxes and boxes of stuff I've got (this has been a project off and on for over a year) and tossing a lot of the old 90s stuff.

That wouldn't work for me, as I am not in the GTA, and have nowhere near 300,000 base cards.
