"If you dont have kids in that game, that's just asking for trouble in today's day & age."

What exactly are you implying? I've been around rinks for many years including the 17 years my son spent on the ice and long after, can't say as I ever had a single reason to doubt the intentions of anyone in attendance.

"The real fan" comment has been taken way out of context as I didn't take it to mean that anyone who doesn't eat, drink and sleep hockey isn't a real fan. Perhaps, 'a real fan of the All Star game' would have been a better way to phrase things. And yes, the "Penguins are Gutless" post is pretty harsh and unreasonable, but the post did make one thing clear. Based on a few comments, it's clear that because some of you are indifferent toward the game you don't recognize it as the marketing tool and fan appreciation mechanism it's designed to be. I doubt anyone watches the game expecting hard hitting, stellar defense and injured players on the ice. As I said earlier, it's a chance to see the best in the game all in one setting, either on tv or in person. Crosby, like Lindros before him, sometimes gives off a vibe that he's larger than the game and it brings his fan appreciation into question. As someone pointed out, he's appeared in one All Star game......

A boring game with the best stars in the league is still a boring game. No amount of fanfare can hide a boring game. I love the draft, the skills competition...I love everything about the All Star game except the All Star game. If I want to kill a Sunday watching hockey I don't care about, I'll head to one of my local rinks and catch some peewee games. At least those players care if they win or lose.

How to make it matter, and therefore worth watching? Not totally sure. Go back to the Stanley Cup Champion vs. League stars? Probably not. Do like the MLB and have it determine home ice advantage in the finals with east/west teams? Maybe. Work it into the outdoor game format, which they're already trying to make the premier event of the season? Who knows.

The point is no one cares about the game. The weekend party is fun, the surrounding events as well. The game though? Terrible. What happens when you put a bunch of superstars together for the first time? Ask the Oilers.

A real fan is a person who can pronounce every players name right, while doing a case break.... thought this was obvious!

As for Crosby... Dont get me wrong he's an amazing hockey player. He has always been a premadona tho. He should definitely be playing this weekend. Even if he were to just come out for the skills comp. Gives the excited kids and such a chance to at least see him.

You may not doubt the intentions of anyone in attendance but all it takes is one person though to do that.

Based on a few comments, it's clear that because some of you are indifferent toward the game you don't recognize it as the marketing tool and fan appreciation mechanism it's designed to be.

Or we recognize it's a marketing tool and only a marketing tool and dont make it must see.

You like it and that's great but to each it's own and at the end of the day we will both be on the same level.

Haha yeah they can get pretty ridiculous.

On the plus side they just announce JOHHNY HOCKEY, will take Crosbys spot. I'm predicting it now... 6 points for him.

I think people care about the idea of the game, not the game itself as it's played. It's meaningless, usually quite boring, and in the end more people are just hoping their guy doesn't get hurt than actually want a good hockey game.

I admit, the all-star game is a bit boring but I still watch, I love hockey! Maybe Ovechkin cares more about his fans, he's always there trying to make a good show like he did with is cowboy hat a few years ago. Subban would do the same thing.
