    Kind of a dud day.

I was hoping to see Habs dump a few extra bodies to further stock the draft pick and prospect cupboard but it appears that other teams watch the Habs games. No dice moving Benn, Schlemko or Alzner. I don’t think Sam Pollock would have been able to achieve that. I am happy Max is still a Canadien. He’s been given a rough ride lately and some of it isn’t really fair.

The one deal that does surprise me most is seeing the Blues deal Stastny. They’re not throwing in towel on the season are they??

Basically yes, sadly. 6 game losing streak is the worst since 13-14. Haven't scored a goal in 2.5 games. Currently would not make the playoffs.
We were tied with Tampa for the league lead in Nov/Dec IIRC.
The Stastny deal: smart to dump an overpaid player and clear cap space to re-sign Edmundson next year. We are shallow at center though, and us fans were clamoring for a major shakeup and new top-line talent even though this year is looking doubtful.

i was talking about Vegas winning the Cup.

With what the Golden Knights have done this season, why is it out of the realm of possibility?

There are a few reasons why players like Pacioretty, Benn, Alzner, or Schlemko were not traded today.

    1. Alzner is overpaid and slow.

    2. Benn and Schlemko are spare parts on most playoff teams. Depth is good, but how much value do they have elsewhere?

    3. GM Marc Bergevin (deservedly so) wants the sun and the moon for Pacioretty.

Do you think I'm far off?

Fans seem to be all over the place regarding the Rangers-Lightning trade. Some people saying that Rangers got great value, and others saying that Tampa fleeced them. I am on the spectrum that Rangers made out like bandits, as I believe that McDonagh hasn't been near as effective a Dman since getting his block knocked off by Wayne Simmonds two seasons ago. I don't think he is first pairing quality, at least as far as Tampa is concerned, so I think they gave up an awful lot for a 2nd pairing defenseman.

As a Habs fan, I was hoping they would blow up the team, and trade Price, Paciorretty, pretty much anybody not named Gallagher or Galchenyuk. Alas, it was not to be.

Not that they would know what to do with any draft picks anyway.

Lots of valuable points by all of you.

The cap really affects how teams build their rosters now and in the future. There were a few deals were salary was retained by the original teams so the players can still be moved.

I think the best trade of all this season was Nashville picking up Turris, what Ottawa was thinking on this one makes no sense. Turris was a fan favourite and did so many charities in town. Nashville is going to be tough to beat. They have experience, depth, youth and three lines that can score.

Pittsburgh is still legit, adding Brassard was a great move. I wonder if they have another college rookie ready to do what Sheary or Guentzel have done the past few years to help them will. A healthy Letang makes them even better.

I like Philly with adding Odyua for nothing to give their back end some experience and a fresh start for a top notch goalie in Mrazek could be a difference maker. Crappy thing is they could face a Washington or Pittsburgh first round.

Tampa Bay had to make their push yesterday, a their window to win is now, Stamkos is healthy and many of their top guys will be up for some large raises in salary the next few years. Look at Chicago and Pittsburgh, somehow they are able to keep their top guys and filled their roster with great young players, (Panarin, Saad, Sheary, Murray, Guentzel). It finally caught up with the Hawks this year.

Winnipeg to me is going to be a tough team to beat the next few years if they can keep everyone in the lineup, Laine, Ehlers, Wheeler, Little, Schefiele, Connor, Stastny. Their back end is dynamite Buff, Myers, Trouba, Morrissey, Enstrom. Awesome goaltending in Helly, Mason and Comrie. The thing that's best about winnipeg is their depth in their AHL farm team who have a chance as well to win the league. They have Petan, Roslovic, Lemieux who could play in the league right now.

Vegas is exciting and makes things exciting with their style and their coaching Gerald Gallant, most underrated coach in the league. Florida should have never let him go a few seasons ago. Players thrive under him, they have great organizational depth and adding Tatar to give them more scoring is a good move. They will still have to beat San Jose or Anaheim to win the division then play a Nashville or Winnipeg to get to the Cup. Do they have enough experience to go through the long series and potentially face a team like LA in the first round.

As for Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo, Arizona, Vancouver, even Edmonton, I am not really sure if they accomplished much to improve their teams now or even improve their chances at winning the lottery for Dahlin. Why did Edmonton move Maroon, they have a 36 year old Cammalleri that has done nothing for them but move a younger big body guy like Maroon who actually has success playing with McDavid gets moved for a 3rd round pick.

Don't get me started with Ottawa, how they let the media think Karlsson is being moved then their GM Dorion 'Dork' says in the press conference that Karlsson was never on the market could have done themselves some favours in a Canadian market by getting the media to back off on Erik and the other guys in Ottawa. The Rangers notified everyone their plan and they accomplished it with some of their moves. No wild media frenzy, it was 'Where's Nash going to end up?'.

Montreal, who the heck knows what they are up to.

Thats just my two cents worth.

There's a reason I said "it appears that other teams watch the Habs games." LOL I give MB a C+ for the deals he did make, but he needed to do more. Either of Benn/Schlemko bumps the grade to a B, and moving that horrific Alzner contract would have gotten him an A.

The deadline is a tough time to make a real hockey trade, and I think that if they move Pacioretty it will end up being a hockey trade. Those deals are easier done at the draft or that time.

Given a chance, I think you'll be happy with the players Montreal got from the Leafs

I think it's quite possible that Rychel cracks the 4th line at some point. Don't know much at all about Valiev. A couple sources think he could be a good 5-7 guy. We have many 5-7 guys, but not really good ones. LOL
