    Gotta love it when .........

    A trader responds to your post , with interest in a specific mid range auto card . He includes his traders list for you to peruse. You select an exactly equivelent valued card.

    He responds by stating that the card he wants from you, is actually overated and over valued in his opinion ... and that he once saw it sold on EBAY for $3 (funny but I could not find that sale)

    Then he proceeds to tell me that the card I have selected from him is actually worth much more in trade value (ughhhhhh) .

    Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and move on (lol) ..... enough said

    Those same people then wonder why they wind up on my ignore list which means I no longer have to see their posts or PMs. The easiest way to get rid of an annoying waste of your time.
    I will consider buying cards from my want list for the right price.

    Trading is complicated, everyone values their cards differently. Is it possible that the card you picked of his booked the same, but is a much more desirable card?

    I can think of an example with piper1 (above) - he wanted a /25 Giroux patch of mine that only booked at $12. I had to refuse trading it at that valuation, and it probably got me on the ignore list ;)

    @Maggot

    Dont worry, with piper, were all on his list.

    Just remember, when you see him on this site, you're just looking at a superior trader / member all together ..... someone who truly understands the hobby. Why even question anything he says? That would be like questioning god himself. I had a similar experience, where he was trading low end /100 parallels, so I picked out a few, and he wanted 50 - 60 - 70 "BV" cards in return. I simply told him his cards filled the $1 - $2 BINs at our local shows and I couldnt give up that much for basically a bulk low end lot ...... lets just say god himself had exiled me, and im still trying to learn from my sins.

    @sports4-ever

    Like Maggot has said, it does depend on how your trading partner views values in this hobby. There are many people who dont like the Beckett, who feels its outdated and therefor when they see a stated "BV" they look up their method and can say things like "underrated" and "overrated". You can just look at the players in your sig ..... there has been so much movement in the hobby on quite a few players, I am not a Beckett user, but I would wage players like Price / Drouin / Karlsson dont have down arrows beside their names. While on ebay, if youre buying, im sure youre experiencing some very good prices on singles that used to be a lot more no more than 1 year ago. On the flip side, im sure 1 year ago you could have been picking up MacKinnon rookies for half of what some are selling for now, I have doubts hes moved much in the good book either.

    While I do find ebay a better method for determining a cards value, you cannot take 1 sale as its determined value. With most cards, its easy to find multiple auctions, or multiple similar auctions to base an educated guess on value.

    The hobby has grown in price many people cannot overlook how much cards sell for .... seeing as you cant walk into your LCS and trade them BV for their wax, nor can you go to a show and trade dealers BV for their cards. Personally, everything on my tradelist is just that, non PC totally 100% available cards. Each one of them has a $$$ signed beside them. When I sell, most of my hobby dollars goes back into the hobby. When a trader comes and offers a deal using BV, I simply check to see if the cash values of the cards being offered is similar to whats being asked from me. Especially if its not a PC item, a trade to help anothers collection is fine as long as your not taking a hit on your inventory.

    Its sometimes rough to work out deals when 1 member uses BV, and the other uses SV, but I think @Leafsman and I are a perfect example of how BV and SV users can make multiple deals.

    Im not sure why someone would burn a bridge over a simple disagreement on a cards value, or how they determine a value of a card. Dont do what piper said, dont randomly block people because they are "an annoying waste of your time", just look at it like you couldnt come to a deal this time, but maybe next time you will. Everyone determines card values a bit different as there is no one best method to determining value.

    If the local SCF guys simply blocked the "annoying waste of you time" members, then we would have nothing to laugh about when we meet up at the monthly shows. I wonder if the "annoying waste of your time" members can put a BV on our enjoyment.

    Actually you aren't on my ignore list however to be fair please recall for all exactly what you wanted in return, my HOFer 13/14 Prizm Al MacInnis SP Auto. At least you weren't rude about it and replied quickly. The guys who are on my list are typically real knobs and about three quarters of them have probably left the site because this wasn't a hobby for them.

    This thread made me lol...I can think of at least a couple traders who could fit the bill for the OP. I also have one of these guys in my long-time hockey pool. You probably all know one...the Tavares hasn't scored in 4 games so you should probably trade him to me for this waiver pick-up who has scored in 4 straight guy!

    Good! Hope we can work out some trades in the future. I ended up selling that Giroux for $10 which would probably be the same or more than the Macinnis.

    Just goes to show trading is tough, and the fact that our hobby's price guide so frequently has absurd valuations only makes it tougher. Just have to roll with the punches.

    Appreciate the comments, and I understand that traders will always have differing opinions on card values. But, this was clearly a trader making an attempt to procure a mid range auto, while wanting to give nothing of value in return. Telling me that he saw it at $3 on EBAY , makes me question why he didn't buy it !!!! And why is it that traders always quote EBAY previous sold prices, but no one makes mention of the ridiculous shipping fees that are paid to obtain the card in question. A while ago I was informed that a dual jersey card I had for trade was recently sold for $11 on EBAY. When I found it on the sold listings , I also noticed that the shipping fees on that card were $19.99 US ....... There are still a lot of EBAY sellers who list cards and also want to increase their sales profits by also charging overly inflated shipping fees.

    I mean, this happens a lot less now seeing as ebay charges fees on your shipping fees .... to avoid these exact situations.

    What ive found with shipping, it will always be a higher shipping charge if you have a Canadian Address equipped as your default shipping address, because Americans charge so much for shipping. You cant simply say the card sold for $30, because it was $11 BID + $19 shipping ..... I have serious doubts that card would have been purchased by a Canadian, or a Canadian without a US mailing address. Now, if the card sold for like $100+ you could more so see a Canadian eating the shipping charge, but no one is buying a card knowing that shipping is 2/3 of their price.

    For the most part, ive found Canadians to actually be the most ridiculous when it comes to shipping charges. $7 within Canada without tracking for 1 card? I usually dont mind paying, just when I get the envelope in, and see a $1.80 stamp on it ... I simply message the person asking for a refund for the difference, or I will give you 1 star where applicable and ebay will quickly take away some selling privileges.

    I honestly dont think anyone here quotes shipping charges when determining a fair price based on completed listings, unless its high end
