Coaches and GMs might be jockeying for draft position, but players aren't. Rookies take jobs from veterans and guys who don't produce won't find contracts as free agents. The only way to truly tank is follow the NBA model and start all your backups.

Agree with the above.

I also understand what jplcom is saying ... but ... I think motivation plays a major factor in football and teams that know their GM's and owners actually desire losses, many times don't have the same motivation as the team they are playing against, which leads to losses, which is basically tanking ...

Good for Derek … I like his resolve … I wonder if Chucky is in agreement with him though?

Carr and a 2nd Round pick to the Falcons for Matt Ryan and a 3rd pick-Both have run there courses for both teams a fresh new start on a new team would benefit both.

It'd be cool to see QBs traded for each other and THAT would certainly qualify as a "Blockbuster" trade … but I doubt it happens … I think the Raiders would do it, but I don't think the Falcons would … I'm not a big Matt Ryan guy but he's played MVP level football this year, it's simply that his defense is poor … I believe Ryan will play his entire career in Atlanta and make the Hall of Fame when all is said and done … Carr is still a wild-card but is also still young enough to end up having a marvelous career … it just may not be with the Raiders, and that might not be a bad thing for him.

Falcon fan here. Ryan plays for his own stats, not the team. Will throw out of bounds on 4th down so an INT doesn't go against him. I would trade for Carr tomorrow if it were possible. Quinn can go as well to be chucky's replacement in a year or two.

^ THAT is an astute observation … however … do you watch Carr much? He does the same thing and has turned into a check-down Charlie … in fact, honestly, MOST QBs seem to play for their stats rather than do everything to help their team … in fact, the list of QBs who don't is probably very short, guys like Roethlisberger, Rivers, Jameis, Luck and a few others don't seem to care at all about their "stats" but most QBs do imho.
Regardless, Matt Ryan is a far superior QB when compared to Carr … however, Carr is much younger, so, who knows, maybe the trade would work … I just personally think the Falcons would demand multiple picks along with Carr to give up Matt Ryan.

Has Derek Carr lost his marbles?
Apparently Stephen A Smith said on First Take that Carr "quit" on the Raiders last year or something and Carr just lost it, said that Smith and co-host Max Kellerman are clowns and just upset because he blocked them on Twitter (yeah, um, okay ... that makes sense
). He then said neither Smith or Kellerman understands football (a valid point imho) and that he'd like to fight them in the Octagon and even tagged Dana White ... I mean, really?
I like Carr, but this is not just a bad look for him, it's a stupid stance for him to take as First Take has a huge audience and they don't have to give him a mic, they can just trash him whenever they want ...
I also think Carr's being extremely thin-skinned, as they are way harder on other QBs than they are on Carr, WAY HARDER, and some of those other QBs they are harder on are better than Carr, so, to me, Carr looks foolish here BUT I still respect him for speaking his mind and especially for calling Smith and Kellerman out as guys who don't actually know what they're talking about when it comes to evaluating QBs ... I've been saying THAT for years!
