How does the Beckett price guide come up with their prices.....really?
Over the past couple of years Mike Gartner's rookie card has gone down from 30 to 20 dollars.
What did Mike Gartner do in the past 2 years to get his RC devalued?
Here's are some other weird things I noticed....
87-88 Mario Lemieux OPC $15..........Topps $20
89-90 Brett Hull OPC $1..........Topps $5
84-85 Wayne Gretzzky OPC $25..........Topps $4

There are plenty of reasons to question how Beckett prices some cards but this isn't one of them. The Topps cards from those years had some cards that were either Double Printed or Short Printed and that accounts for these differences that appear unusual to those who are unware of that fact.

The just make up the numbers and tell people they use data to figure it out. Really with all the cards out there do you think they could have ever really done that? No but they sure tried to push that narrative onto their readers until they were caught pricing cards that never were actually made....

Why does Mike Garnter surprise you that his price has dropped. I mean who was paying 30 dollars to begin with for his card? I can think of all the years on here I can never remember ever asking for a Mike Gartner card. A hell of a player but some folks never get any love sad to say.
I concur with NSLOKI logic it is a dartboard where they derive their prices from.

I could debate with you all day with you why the Mike Gartner rookie card is a good card to collect for vintage collectors, but according to your profile your Immortal so what's the point I would just lose

It is fun to debate as there is no right or wrong answers. I am just stating a fact that I have never had any one ever come up to me looking for Mike Gartner rookies in all my time of doing shows or being on the forums. Would love to hear your reasons why you think it is a good card to collector for vintage collectors.

That is one I would truly disagree with because if you look at the sales on the graded cards of those 9's and 10's they are definitely fetching some nice change. So I am sure if folks think it looks like they have no trouble paying 20 to 30 dollars all day along.
p.s. I assume the 20 is the top High Price LOL which would be crazy imo!

Gartner........Hall of famer ranked 8th all time in goals scored. More goals than Messier, Yzerman, Lemieux, Sakic, Bobby Hull to name a few, and also played less games than most of those players.
I''d rather pay 30 bucks for a Gartner Rookie any day of the week over a YG who has scored 4 goals in 26 games for 200 bucks.
Out of all the rookie cards from the 1980's he's definately top 15....maybe 10Last edited by cjb; 03-14-2021 at 05:45 PM.
