Seeing the price of Series 2 wax is even more crazy to me.

A 30 pack box of retail, selling for close to $700 CND ? You're going to have 7 or 8 YGs in the box, which means less than a 1-in-5 chance of hitting OV. Why not just buy the card?

When will the housing boom end?

This is how everything in life is being funded right now.
    Cheap interest rates.

Covid is only a small factor.

The hobby was already booming before covid especially Basketball/Zion hype.

It just came last to hockey because there was nothing else left to pump up.

In the summer it will dip for sure after the seasons are over.

    @sparty07

    Crosby BGS 9.5 - 2151 - 140x 10s
    Ovechkin BGS 9.5 - 1736 - 55x 10s
    McDavid BGS 9.5 - 7015 - 536x 10s

    Zion BGS 9.5 - 8461 - 683x 10s
    Ja BGS 9.5 - 4358 - 313x 10s
    Luka BGS 9.5 - 2517 - 124x 10s

    Combined numbers - BGS 9.5+ / PSA 10 cards:

    Crosby - 3,042
    Ovechkin - 2,634
    McDavid - 9,526

    Zion - 24,353
    Ja - 17,872
    Luka - 18,440

For one of the cards in the Hockey Hobby that gets the most heat for being "Mass Produced" in the McDavid YG ..... its still not even close to Ja / Luka / Zion .....

You could argue Ja / Zion / Luka COULD become the next McDavid ..... but McDavid is easily the best offensive player in the game, and most likely will be for the next 8-10 years. Neither Ja / Zion / Luka can claim that

Except the demand is 10x higher in basketball so McDavid is overpriced relatively speaking.
Only thing saving the price is all the cards went to BGS early and not PSA.

McDavid has never scored more than 41 goals in a season. Gets outplayed by his own teammate and never has won a cup.
Right now playing in a joke division skews stats.

Last year he was basically Panarin/Pastrnak/Mackinnon level .
Nothing special and he plays a ™™™™ load of minutes with no regard for defense.

Luka is a triple double machine and MVP candidate but his steam sucks.

Luka's stats are more special than McDavid. Mcdavid has done nothing special. Both are losers right now so that's a wash.

Smart people are investing in hard assets, that and crypto.... It's the US dollar that is the issue... The new "gold" is cards, it's homes, it's classic automobiles, crypto and pretty much any asset that will appreciate in value over time.

I mean think about it - with cards there are only a "finite" amount when it comes to modern sets so they're a good investment. With housing - families are fleeing the cities for a multitude of various reasons and that's creating a demand for housing in suburban and rural areas, and obviously when demand goes up so does value/prices...

Also, I have a theory that the boom in crypto - especially bitcon is associated with this card boom, because in my opinion individuals my age (40) that grew up collecting cards, also invested in crypto before the crypto boom so now they have plenty of excess cash to invest and diversify their investment portfolio so they're investing in finite hard assets, such as PSA/BGS 10's etc because they know 10's will only appreciate in value.. I mean I also believe Covid does play a role depending on which state/city you live in, because in some cities there really is nothing to do - you cant go to a sporting event er go out to eat, go to the movies, go out shopping or whatever it is they used to enjoy pre-covid so they're left with limited options which is why a lot of former collectors are getting back into the hobby and they're really enjoying it.. I mean I got back into the hobby back in 2016 after a 20 year hiatus kinda by accident and I was hooked once again immediately, over the years I forgot really how much I enjoyed collecting and how happy I was when I collected as a kid... I mean there is an old saying that "everyone needs a hobby" to be mentally healthy - and I believe that, I mean people need a purpose, or something to do, so yea with covid I think a lot of individuals that got out of the hobbies they enjoyed when they were younger are now getting back into them, be it sports cards, model airplanes, knitting, music or whatever it was they did as a hobby when they were younger, and sports and sports cards is and always has been one of the biggest hobbies, so yea - like I said there are a multitude of various reasons why all of these assets are skyrocketing in value.... And look, it's not a bad thing either...

This is absurd. The Kaprizov Artifacts /999 RC redemption (and a couple throw-ins) sold for nearly $1600 CDN.

By comparison, recent sales of the Panarin /899 artifacts rookie have sold for... $9-15 CDN.
